“Great if you don’t mind the mobile phone mast.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

We booked the apartment and the owners kindly upgraded us to the house. The house is well equipped and clean. The owners are clearly passionate about the area they live in and provide a great guide to the area. It would have been an excellent but unfortunately there is a large mobile phone tower at the entrance to the property. If you don’t mind the mast this house is great but you should be aware before booking. We booked and paid for 4 nights and did not stay due to the proximity of the house to the tower.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012 via mobile

We had booked in to a B&B owned by the same couple (Helen and John), but they 'upgraded' us to the Retreat as they'd over booked the B&B. The Retreat was far too large for us as a couple, but would be an excellent choice if you're travelling with a large group. The property is very well presented, views are beautiful, a great location for enjoying a glass of wine as the sun goes down. Large kitchen and dining areas, would be great for entertaining.

“Awesome Views!!”
My extended family of 6 adults, a 19 yr old & 15 yr old nephew & 2 14 yr old daughters have just returned from a 4 night stay at The Summit Rainforest Retreat, Atherton Tablelands and we were very impressed by the quality of the accommodation as well as the owners who are very friendly & only too happy to help, thanks Helen!!
We had the whole house and apartment to ourselves comprising of 5 bedrooms in total. My parents stayed in the 1 bedroom apartment which enabled them to have their own private space but also be around if they chose to be. Also one of the bedrooms is located outside the main house with its own entry which may not suit all families, particularly if you are travelling with really little ones.
We had 3 ensuite bathrooms, a private patio overlooking Atherton complete with ample table & chairs, a BBQ area on the external deck with the all important fridge for the cold ones, as well as access to the great pool which also included a spa up one end. My daughters and nephews thought it great having their own space, complete with TV and their own ensuite!!
The decor and furnishings in the house and apartment are modern and fresh with everything you could want including an airconditioner which we didn't need to use as the weather was PERFECT. Kitchen was well equipped with full size fridge, dishwasher, microwave oven, plenty of cupboard space and plates, cups, cutlery etc; even had a coffee plunger.
Only down side was the absence of an onsite laundry. There was one available for use at one of their other properties but you had to pay. I found this a little strange!! Not even a laundry sink. The trek down the hill for a longer stay could be a turnoff.
Bathrooms included a hairdryer & an added bonus was a small supply of coffee, tea, etc and toiletries, toilet paper, and a tea towel which allowed you to get settled in.
There was also pool towels available for use for the duration of your stay.
Mobile reception isn't the best unless you are with Telstra 3G also.
Atherton itself is a beautiful little town, with plenty to do and see. We had a hire vehicle which I think was a wise decision, as being on top of the volcano rim afforded magnificent views but a hike from the shopping district which was only a few minutes away by car.
We spent 3 days exploring the region from Mareeba to Millia Millia.
Overall I would say a very private and peaceful location and not bad value for money for a large group!!
