“nice pub shame about the food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

the hotel has been recently refurbished and the rooms smell fresh and clean.the pub has a good atmosphere and the staff are friendly.Breakfast is good The negative is the standard of the food is at best moderate. The steaks we ordered on the first night were wrongly cooked and very fatty. The lagsagne the next night was a indebible mess and the burger tasteless resembling an economy brand. The menu definitely lets the pub down it is of poor quality poorly presented and relies too much on something being quickly put in the microwave.I would not put anyone off from the saracens you can get really good deals, have a drink but definitely eat elsewhere.

From the street view, this would look like a pub on the corner of the high street. But you soon see -especially as you head around the back and park, that it is more than just a pub/restaurant. We learnt that is has not long been refurbished with quite a lot of money spent on it -and it shows: It holds lodgings for up to about 80 or so rooms, has a specially laid out breakfast buffet bar as good as any high rating hotel, you can even smell it's newness as you walk around. The decor is very tasteful and we particularly liked the room itself which consisted of wooden cross beams and posh glass side tables attached to the bed (+ an ensuite). They have made a point of making sure room service, teas and coffees etc are in place -it had everything one would need. The staff also were of the highest quality, with a genuine people-caring personality. If you've ever been put off by this place or had a bad experience in the past, I implore you to give it a second chance. (Perhaps the staff have been refurbished too?!)

The meal in the restaurant was the finest, stodge-less fish and chips I have ever had, and the plate was not packed with chips! (it's just nice to see there are folk who have a better idea of portion awareness!) In short, the best fish and chips I honestly think I have had. Breakfast -again, not an oversized greased up english brekky -a nice and slightly greased up english brekky lol!

The price was a brilliant online bargain, and they were flexible with our checking out time (although I didn't want to take advantage). They also kindly allowed us to remain parked in their car park after check out time, to explore the town.

This is definitely a town we will visit again -it's excellence stands out to me -and we will most definitely stay in the Saracen's Head again.

Room Tip: Not aware of a swimming pool or fitness centre there.

It would be good to see you when you are next in Towcester.

I visited the Saracens due to a trip to silverstone for my hubby's bday. I don't usually choose pub hotels as I am a lady of quality and luxury and it seems that this recently refurbished hotel has Made a place of quality and luxury. Upon arrival the hotel looked nice from the outside and I was instantly greeted by a staff member called Daniel. He questioned my stay which was nice as he genuinely seemed to care about my visit. we were then placed in one of their best rooms, room 8 and it was so nicely decorated and for a Saturday I didn't hear any noise from downstairs, I slept well the bed was very comfy. Daniel booked my taxi to the award winning restaurant the vine and due to its lateness he rang them for me and kept me updated. This was not his job but throughout my stay I was looked after, it felt like a personal service which you don't get much of these days. I will definitely be coming back for a second visit Thank you so much : )

We found saracens head on a trip to towcester. We liked the look of this pub and so we found ourselves sat outside on this lovely sunny afternoon, although the beer garden is next to the car park its really nice with classy chairs and tables. We decided to book a table for dinner as it was very busy, and this wasnt a problem. So later on we went in for dinner, the meal was excellent we had three courses and really enjoyed all of them. The staff were friendly and helpfull even though the place was very busy, if we find ourselves in towcester again we will definetly eat here.

Superficially you'd say this place was good. Clearly had a recent refresh, but the rooms were rushed- gaping hole in wall behind tv, radiator had been moved but they hadn't painted over the gap, leaving a square of old paint, cracked tiles in bathroom. On plus side, the bed was massive and very comfortable and modern decor. Plenty of tea, coffee add biscuits in room but cups were impossible to use without two hands and nearly spillt scalding tea over myself. Room was above bar and no signs of sound proofing, you could hear everything word for word. Now part of me says you need to expect noise if you're staying in a pub, but this was the loudest I've ever heard and either needs sorting, or advertised as a problem and discounted accordingly.

Food was good, solid pub food. Bar was busy but food still served quickly. 3 ales on - speckled hen was wrong, but IPA was good.

Staff very friendly, despite being busy, so full marks to them.

No room in car park add apparently its normal to park on road. They seem to have replaced car park space with benches, making it difficult to turn round once you've driven in.

Maybe I'd stay here again if I had a room away from the bar or if it was on offer. Certainly not sure its worth £90 a night.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for The Saracens Head, I am sorry that a couple of problems have taken the shine off your stay, I can assure you that the works behind the TV and the wall behind the recently adjusted radiator are being addressed this week, and your feedback regarding the cups in the rooms has been taken on board as well. Hopefully we can look forward to welcoming you again soon.

We stayed for one night with friends visiting silverstone. We had room 4 the French room I believe, very comfortable nicely refurbished and well equipped. We only booked at table to eat on the day of travel, Good Friday the staff were very accommodating explaining they were busy but they would squeeze us in. First impressions when we arrived were attractive old building with what looked like a good refurbishment. There was nobody at reception to meet us, but a phone was on the desk and somebody soon came. We had been travelling for several hours on the motorway so we urgently needed refreshing in the bar. A very welcoming and busy bar, staff were under pressure (under staffed, I believe somebody phoned in sick) even though they were very busy they were friendly and helpful. The food was good pub grub reasonably priced with a great selection of drinks available from the bar. It was a locals bar all the people we met were friendly, good atmosphere in the bar.
Area's for improvement are TV in room small and reception poor, the fire alarm went off in the evening which affected the hot water, when we returned to our rooms later to get refreshed caused a minor niggle. Hot water was back on again in the morning. Breakfast available earlier than 08:00.

Would we come back YES definitely.
Would we recommend it to friends YES.

Room Tip: Read about problems with noisy rooms. We had room No.4 and had no problems.
