“expensive pub grub”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

The Carpenters Arms is in a lovely location and the restaurant is very attractive, especially the light and spacious garden room. Service is friendly but rather slow. The food is not haute cuisine; in fact, it's expensive pub grub.

“BBQ Disaster!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

Have eaten on a number of occasions at the Carpenters, although a while ago and have never been disappointed. We went on Monday for the BBQ, big mistake. I cann't begin to describe the quality and amount of food that was served. We ordered burgers, which were undercooked, pink inside, the so called red cabbage was bright purple, no one could guess what it was. No bread cake/bun, just a very small finger shaped piece of bread and the salad two wet pieces of lettiuce. I took one look at what was placed in front of me and told him no way was i paying for that, i asked what he thought it was, he said you ordered a burger thats what it is. 9 in total where ordered, we were told we could have them all free. How they could have served this kind of food is beyond me, i truley wish i had taken a picture.

“First time visitor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

So.. Let me start by saying that the food is excellent.. And would definately g back again... However .. It wasn't without its issues around timing... We'd booked for 7 pm,admittedly. Saturday night bank holiday weekend, but at 8.20 I still hadn't eaten a thing... But in absolute fairness , the staff And manager were very apologetic, gave us all free deserts and were exceptionally apologetic and professional..hence me definately saying I would go back, if nothing else to see the beautiful views on a clear sunny night.

“Girlie night out....again!! This place never disappoints!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

Recently visited here one evening in July as a last meal out before our friend has her baby. After requested to eat outside and the staff ensuring this happened we decided although the view was STUNNING as the sun went down we got cold and asked to be moved inside. At no point were we made to feel like we were been nusenses, we were allocated a table in the main part of the dining room and our meals were served! A few of us had starters (but I'm a save the best till last pudding type)!! The food was excellent and the menu has a wide range of choice, from fish dishes to meat and even a lamb curry! I had steak for my main and requested to change the chips from hand cut chunky chips to the French fries! No problem....they just changed it for me! Drink was served all night and we were kept well topped up (apart from our mum to be)!!! The pudding was a chocoalte pudding with ice cream and a biscuity topping! I wasn't happy about sharing it but that's not the pubs fault, that's my greedy friends!! Will defiantly be back I love it here and they're child friendly too. My only critism is one of the waitresses looked like she'd had a tough shift and wasn't too smiley by the end of it! Our bill was just slung on the table, but one of the party members did mention this to the guy in charge and he apologised!
Enjoy a real treat and if the weathers fine eat outside on the sun terrace!! Just trying to convince the hubby to book us a room here.... 5 minutes from home!! ; ) x

“a great place to be”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

Thought we would try the sister pub to our regular "punch bowl at marton grafton" for a change.
We were delighted they could fit us in as they were busy
The place looks great its been a few years since we have been !!!
Food for sunday lunch was spot, generous portions, pipping hot and cooked to perfection
Nice menu with a selection of specials that catered for all tastes.
We cant wait to try the other pubs you have in your collection....there just arent enough sundays in a week
Keep up the good work and we will see you again...hopefully stopping over in one of the delightful chalets
