“Perfect Hideaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

Set in the idyllic village of Felixkirk, the refurbishment is fantastic. We stayed in one of the outstanding garden rooms and the bedrooms are wonderfully spacious and luxurious. The staff are extremely friendly and we had a good conversation with DJ who has relatives living in Hartlepool. The garden room restaurant has real character and warmth and the food was delicious. We had pigeon for starters and venison sausages for our main. Later on in the evening we had a cheese board delivered to our room. I cannot wait to revisit this place, travellers will not be left feeling disappointed.

What a gem ! Loved every minute of our stay here , the staff couldn't have been more charming and attentive , the rooms are just superb , very clever the way they have been designed with all mod cons , lovely bath and shower , bathrobes and usual facilities in the room . Food excellent , good selection on the menu , very relaxing atmosphere . Would stay again and definitely recommend . Very enjoyable !!

On arrival it was apparent that a lot of thought ,money & time has gone into transferring this classic inn into a tranquil first class establishment We were fortunate to be staying in one of the beautiful garden rooms We were in an end room lots of privacy outside seating Inside is large modern with a tip top high end bathroom with shower seperate bath & lovely toiletries lots of comfy seating a nice touch fridge with fresh milk bottled water The bed was huge On to the the staff at the carpenter arms m they make you feel they really care about you and no request seemed to much trouble The food at breakfast and dinner was simply devine plenty choice on menu and specials for dinner we stayed 2 nights and would have not eaten any where else .The inn is in very pretty hamlet with beautiful views all round large car -park We wish all at CARPENERS ARMS a long and prosperous future they deserve it

Room Tip: choose one of the superb garden rooms

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

We had lunch here in March and were so impressed with the food that we booked a couple of nights in August. These coincided with a "Meet your Winemaker" event. The rooms were incredibly comfortable with some excellent touches. Comfortable bed, lots of hanging space, lots of mirrors with lights above, deep luxurious bath and walk in shower. There was a roomy sofa and chair looking out on to a herb garden with lovely views beyond. There were sliding doors onto a terrace with wooden garden furniture. Fabulous large television with a gas log fire.

For the first evening we had fish and chips and shepherds pie. There was an England football match on so we brought back a cheese platter. Eating this, watching England winning, in front of a fire with the doors open to the skies was a great experience.

The wine event was excellent. The expert gave interesting insights and added to the experience. Three courses, with a duo of starters and mains, with 5 glasses of wine for £35 pp. Excellent value. Crispy belly pork, white crab tartare with brown crab beignet, seabass, guinea fowl and meringue. It was packed but the service was still very good.

The room was expensive for one night but was half price for the second night. The breakfast menu was the best I've seen for a long time - full Yorkshire, Eggs Florentine, Eggy Bread with bacon and maple syrup, smoked haddock and poached egg, freshly cooked basket of pasties,.....

I would highly recommend. Enjoy!!

Room Tip: Choose one of the rooms behind the pub. We had room 5, which had a great view and was not overlooke...

I'm quite sure everything said about the accommodation is true. This is a delightful atmospheric old pub which has been extended and modern bedrooms added. It must be a great place to stay.
The restaurant has great service and great views and there is outside seating but the food was good but uninspired. Lamb was tough and the scallops minute, I don't know how they had the nerve to serve them. We would go again but be very careful over food choice sticking to pub food type dishes.

We spent two nights in Farndale, one of the garden rooms. It was wonderfully spacious and well equipped. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom is large, the shower efficient and the toiletries yummy! food is delicious and the staff are extremely pleasant. All in all splendid and highly recommended.
