Had a brilliant experience at the Golden Fleece this last weekend. My daughter got married there so they provided the venue for the ceremony, reception and disco. I still can't get over how helpful all the staff were and especially Jo who organised all the different rooms we needed covering every little detail - nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much!

Yesterday my son Dan got married to his beautiful bride Gemma! The wedding and reception were held in the Golden Fleece Hotel and the staff were absolutely wonderful throughout the planning and on the day itself. We had several meetings with Jo, who managed the event for us - she was extremely professional throughout and just oozed confidence and enthusiasm that put us all at ease and we just knew that everything was in control! On such a day you NEED to know that you don't have to worry - and we were not let down!
We booked a lot of bedrooms for guests but during the run up some people had to drop out and others took their places - none of this was any trouble to the hotel staff and they wouldn't take a penny up-front for deposits and didn't charge for any changes.
Nothing we wanted was too much trouble and the wedding and reception AND the evening disco went exactly to plan - it was fantastic!
The weather on the day was awful so the planned outdoor pictures were dropped - we were given the use of a large room for photographs at no extra charge.
The top rating I can give is Excellent but this is really an understatement - well done and thank you Golden Fleece!

Room Tip: Several rooms have four poster beds but all my friends and family seemed to be happy whatever they g...

Stayed as a group of friends and found the hotel comfortable, breakfast excellent and evening meal good too! The thing that made this hotel stand out was the staff - they were friendly and went out of their way to make our stay special. We had a separate dining room for our Saturday night meal which was brilliant as our group of 10 could chat and have fun in our own space around a beautifully decorated round table. Would recommend to stay - whilst there we visited Castle Howard and York Races.

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary in the fleece in April of this year. Our corner room which was very quiet was situated on the top floor and overlooked the large car park to the rear of the hotel. The bedroom area was very spacious and clean, our only reservation being that the toilet and shower room was a bit on the small side. The hotel which was once a coaching inn, is situated overlooking the market square. The interior has loads of character and the main public spaces are dressed with faux antiques which are reasonably convincing. The cooked breakfast was adequate if not substantial, and could have been improved with the option of baked beans to lubricate the ensemble. Overall a very pleasant place to stay.

Room Tip: Get the corner room top floor. The view of the car park is outweighed by the spaciousness of the r...

Recognised and greeted like a favourite uncle by receptionist Chloe and then sought out by the hands on young manager Joanne Lee, with her radiant and beaming welcome (and it's 2 years since our last most enjoyable stay). Things have change, 'it's got even better'. Our tastefully, simply decorated bijou Mews room had every comfort that we wished for including a tucked away trouser press, a very welcomed accessory after a long time in the driving seat.
My food was obviously locally grown and the vegetables cooked to the usual high standard, (portions were very generous and placed in heated tureens allowing us and our friends to select what we wanted rather than piled high - I still struggled a bit but regrettably had to give up on the 'puds'. We stayed for two nights, departing after a full English. Guess what - we're coming back again in August for another homely welcome. Thanks Joanne and your keen enthusiastic young team for making our stay another memorable occasion.

Room Tip: I'd go for a Mews room for the two of us again and it is quiet and cosy but if you need space, t...
