“Had a lovely Sunday lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2014 via mobile

Had a lovely Sunday lunch at the Orange Tree last weekend. The party had 4 vegetarians, so we were really pleased to see a veggie roast option that included roast potatoes, Yorkshire puds and all the veg. It was not fancy food, but good food at a good price. All starters were £4, roasts £10 (with small portion at £7 or large at £12) and desserts, which were really good at £4. Would recommend going for good pub food, friendly staff and nice surroundings.

“Pub grub at it's very very best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2014

Stumbled across this pub by accident having just gotten into Baldock and trying to find somewhere to have lunch (you'd be surprised how many of the pubs say they serve food but actually don't. we went in four before finding this pub)

I am so glad all the others weren't serving food as it meant we found this gem.

The staff were all super friendly and particular praise for the barrman (didn't catch his name) but he was knowledgeable, friendly, and seemed to take genuine interest that everyone was enjoying their food.

I had the chicken, leek, and bacon pie with chips and mushy peas, and my partner had the macaroni and cheese. Quickly served and both were absolutely amazing. The pie was massive and for £9 was truly great value. Massive thumbs up for the chef.

Great little pub and we were sat in a giant fireplace which was a nice quirk.

Can not recommend it enough for good pub food and friendly atmosphere with good ales! One final plus point is that everything they serve is sourced locally. May return tomorrow to try the sausage extravaganza.

“So welcoming!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2014

I would like to echo the comments of our friend from LA. We pre-booked our food for the day of the funeral our friend had to attend so as to ensure good timing for the occasion. On arrival we and our two Labbies were given the warmest welcome by Rob and, without prompting, he immediately took us out to the delightful garden at the rear of the pub so the girls could "stretch their legs" after a long car journey! Having taken our seats (girls included) inside, our piping hot meals were brought to us without delay - they were delicious! Rob and his staff were attentive throughout since they knew we were pushed for time. it was clear that The Orange Tree is a much loved local with its roaring fire and homely atmosphere. The range of food and beers on offer was extensive and interesting. We're quite sad we don't live closer!

“Friendly pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

I was visiting friends in Sevenoaks and needed to attend a funeral in Biggleswade on February 3rd. As my friends have dogs that needed to make the trip with us we looked for a dog friendly pub close to my destination to stop in for lunch. We were able to pre-book our lunch at the Orange Tree and on arrival we were presented with beautifully prepared hot meals. The owner of the pub made sure that we had plenty of time to have our meal and still get on our way so that I would not be late. The staff were very friendly and with a roaring fire on in the bar I would have been very happy to have lingered and enjoyed the atmosphere. Thank you Orange Tree for taking some of the stress out of a very difficult day!

“True local pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2014

First time as visiting daughter who has just moved to area. Stunning oldy worldy bar. Excellent staff, friendly customers even if you are on your own. Vast range of ales all good. Landlord, believe Bob proper character and very welcoming. Love Arthur the pub dog. My wife who does not drink or like pubs would move to the area just for the pub as would I. Be in there everyday.
Well done Bob, Arthur, all staff and customers. See you in summer on our next visit. Arthur, ignore negative comments.
