“Deep fried with chips!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

We stayed one night last week, room was clean but very small , staff hard working and friendly, resturant was not as we were expecting from the Nelson web page and I think the 4 star ratings of the Nelson are way out, wonder when they were last checked?

The staff were very friendly and helpful even though they were busy both in the small restaurant and the bar. Would recommend booking a table as there are only a few tables. Our meals were excellent and we can recommend the baked camembert. We would go again if we were in the area.

We stayed for two nights recently. We had room 3 (the twin outside the pub). Very impressed with the room, door lock a bit dodgy, but a little slam worked. Room a good size, clean, good linens and comfortable beds. Nice size bathroom, looking a little bit tired compared to the rest of the room. No noise from the pub.

Staff were lovely and really friendly, nothing too much for them and although busy, they managed both the bar and restaurant well. Pub was great and we ate in the restaurant on the Friday. Food was good, hot, plenty to choose from and good vegetarian selection and well priced. Breakfast was excellent and as one reviewer commented, probably one of the best brekkie's I've had.

Will definitely be going back and would recommend others to.

We were staying in Burnham over the weekend, so nipped into the Nelson for lunch. It was very quiet but the staff quickly made us feel welcome! My wife had a traditional ham and eggs, with a great portion of lovely local ham - really tasty! I had the chilli burger - really good - hot and spicy, so much so that I choked slightly on the chilli - but that is not a complaint - loved it! Great pub, worth a visit

I recently went to the Nelson for a evening meal, there were 9 of us and we all enjoyed our meal. The waitresses/bar staff were very nice and a good laugh to! Food was excellent and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I cannot comment on the rooms as we were not staying at the Nelson, but from what I saw the whole building was clean and tidy

I recently spent 2 nights here, and found it to be fantastic value. We were greeted by a lovely friendly girl in the bar and shown to the room...The room (Curlew) is tiny, but nicely decorated, very clean, and containing everything you need. The bed was very comfortable, and the tv worked with a good selection of channels. I personally found the shower to small, but thats maybe because I like a really big shower, so thats just my preference.
One of the nicest breakfasts we've had in a hotel the next day, in a nice room with stunning photographs on the walls....
we didnt eat any meals there unfortunately as we were at a function elsewhere, but will def try next time we're over there. And we stayed for 2 nights, for the same price as one night at another local Inn.....
thanks to The Nelson, see you soon

Its a friendly place. Good beer. However the food is not so good; we met 4 people earlier that day who told us they'd eaten at the Nelson the night before and all of them suffered from indigestion afterwards, so did we!
The room is smallish, the bathroom has a shower only. Its all reasonably decorated. However the place was very noisy till around 11.30pm. Then you can hear other guests use the bathroom. If this wasn't bad enough an extractor fan was left on all night (switched off at 6.30am). I did mention it the next morning only to be told 'you should have called the pub, someone lives in, they would have dealt with it', great but there are no phones in the room and you cannot get a signal on your mobile! Apart from the Hoste there isn't much accommodation choice in this area.
