Description: Book a romantic dinner in the restaurant at The Hoste Hotel, where the Chefs create dishes that owe much to locally sourced produce, not least a great selection of local seafood from the nearby coast. We have a high quality, informal, relaxed atmosphere with very friendly and efficient staff. The imaginative menu is complimented by a 200-bin wine list that includes some keenly priced classics.

I wrote a pretty damning review after our last visit in August - to which the owner responded to, asked us to give it another try. I am glad we did. We were pleasantly surprised by the much improved service and better organised team - from arriving for drinks all through dinner. For the record my wife had halloumi and I had steak which was perfectly cooked, medium rare. Our 10 year old son had pasta (my only criticism was that that this was a very small serving at £8). Well done team. We shall return.

“Disappointing experience, good food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2014

After expecting to eat in the cosy looking front of the restaurant, we were all disappointed to be seated in a row of three tables along a bench in the soulless conservatory, which is very large and there was little atmosphere.
The food was generally good, with the exception of the fish cakes which were more potato with a hint of fish.
The waiter who explained the food to us was patronising and whilst other tables were given bread to begin, we were not.
The restaurant wasn't particularly busy however, there was an extended delay between our courses.
We are glad we tried The Hoste but are unlikely to return.

“Corporate not character”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2014 via mobile

I have been to the Hoste Arms for many years and have a home nearby.I have tried to like the new version fo the once characterful, quircky place. It now has a corporate feel, not the welcoming personal touch of old. The Morrocan garden was wonderful, a haven for the children whilst we finished our lunch/supper or to escape the village with a nice drink. Now gone replaced by more dining and conference facilities with no atmosphere. This is a coastal pub not an urban business hub.The welcome by Emma and her staff was always excellent now I do not recognise a single face. The food whilst not always perfect before is now rather uninteresting, if the new owners have lived in Australia, why not take inspiration/ vibe from some of the wonderful food and atmosphere from there? Eg The Boathouse, Palm Beach, Sydney. Simple delicious food with casual style. Please take heed as this pub has been such a destination for so long, but so many people, local and visitors have told me they will not go there again. The bar at the front is still great, woe betide if that is ever fiddled with. The old sofas at the back have been repalced with boring pub tables, intrusive music and not a fresh flower in sight. I urge the new owners to inject some personality and make The Hoste desirable again... As another reviewer mentioned, there is a lot more competionup and down the coast these days!

“Drum rolls please!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2014

Returning to The Hoste is like reuniting with an old familiar friend, the familiar atmosphere, the friendly welcome from staff and the delicious food is game-on, again, thank goodness!

Having a recent disappointing experience here back in October, I am so pleased to be writing a new review with very favourable comments!

From the moment we arrived, to the point of leaving all staff were very friendly, and seemed to be effortless, in conveying their hospitality service.

In particular, I want to mention Corrie, however it is not withstanding that all staff were very friendly, and professional. Corrie showed us to our table, answered our queries regarding some of the food on the menu, and her friendly , yet professional manner was excellent!

My husband , and I chose the ribeye steak, with various side dishes, all of which were full of flavour and the cuts of meat just melted in our mouths, absolutely wonderful. My mother in law opted for a light meal, and chose the butternut squash soup, which was out of this world, accompanied by home made bread rolls!

We decided to relocate to the conservatory lounge area for coffee, and sat in relaxing comfort while doing so, oh, and nearly forgot to mention the home made cookies too, which melted in our mouths too!

To summarise, a The Hoste is deserving of the highest praise in having picked itself up from a brief period of teething troubles during the transition of new ownership, and staff changes. However following my recent dining experience the whole team from management to waiting ,and bar staff, are well deserving of the highest praise for polishing up their act!

Thank you for a memorable evening, one of the best meals we have had in a long time!

“Fabulous food -”

It is almost overwhelmingly good, the freshest ingredients and some truly exceptional flavours, beautifully put together and served with courtesy, efficiency, charm and enthusiasm.
