You can't beat Travelodge for value for money. My booking was for myself and my mother so we booked a twin room which (oddly) is also what they call the 'accessible' rooms - so the bathroom was huge with a walk-in shower and handrails etc. This was rather confusing on their website as unless you knew to tick 'include accessible rooms' the twin option wouldn't have shown up at all but a phone-call to the hotel explained it. As the date of our stay approached, I rang the hotel to ensure that the room was set up as a twin as I'd been advised to do by the person I spoke to.
Having booked on-line, the check-in process was incredibly fast. I'm not sure if we had been disabled, whether someone would have helped carry our cases but there were no stairs to negotiate in any case. The only slight surprise was that there were no toiletries in the bathroom apart from a teeny weeny bar of soap. If I'd read the website, I would have known this but I still felt that it looked rather cheap not to provide the usual shower soap etc. There was also only one set of towels even though they knew there were two people arriving - but a quick word with the receptionist and more towels were provided immediately. The room was very large presumably (again) due to it being an 'accessible' room but it was so empty that it looked rather stark. There was plenty of room for a sofa or a couple of comfortable chairs which would have made it look more inviting - but I'm being picky here because in terms of value for money, it was exceptionally good. The room was clean, fresh and roomy. It was also warm and windows could be opened to let in some fresh air. The river Etherow flows right below the back of the hotel but the double glazing kept the noise out and even when we opened the window, it didn't disturb our sleep.
The tv was fine and there were tea and coffee making facilities. I didn't use the Wi-fi as I didn't really need to and it was £5 an hour.
There was no associated cafe or restaurant but breakfast boxes could have been ordered. Instead, we opted to get breakfast in the Wetherspoons located a few yards from the hotel entrance and were very please with the quality and value of their breakfast menu.
All in all a very pleasant experience and I would recommend them to anyone wanting a cheap place to stay in Glossop town centre without missing out on too many of their creature comforts.
