“Loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

Had a lovely relaxing week here. The cottage is comfortable and cosy, well equipped and handy for touring around the area. It's peaceful but also interesting being on a farm. Although the owners are right alongside you you do not feel as if you are under surveillance they just let you get on with your holiday unless you need them. We really liked the location it being just a short walk into Castleton where you are spoilt for choice with places to eat and drink. The walk back up the farm track may take a little longer but it will burn off a few of the calories you have just consumed. We have every intention of returning what more can we say?

We stayed in Milkmaid's Cottage and had a wonderful time - Denise welcomed us with a bottle of wine, a card, some milk and chocolates - much appreciated. The cottage is well equipped with its kitchen, flatscreen TV, DVD/VHS and iPod dock, bath and shower. The bed is huge! We also got to feed the lambs with David and Denise one afternoon which was an experience in itself.

Riding House Farm is in a great location for exploring both the Dark and White Peak area, walking distance into Castleton and on the doorstep of Losehill and Mam Tor. Very reasonable tariff as well - if we return to the area again, we will definitely be looking to book here again!

A long weekend break in Shepherds Cottage. Very quiet location. Both rental cottages at Riding House farm are attached to the farmhouse at the end of a long private track with nothing but farmland surrounding them. Welcoming, helpful and unobtrusive owners. Cottage very clean and has all the facilities you need for a comfortable holiday. Within walking distance (~30 mins) of Castleton where there is a good range of pubs/places to eat. Excellent value, will definitely return.

Have just returned from a week at Riding House Farm, this was a return visit and I thought it only right to update my review from one of our previous visits. Again our cottage was beautifully presented with everything we needed, and the beautiful location just a short pleasant stroll into Castleton is ideal. With lots of local attractions and picturesque walks nearby this is the perfect location to do plenty or just relax and enjoy the view, or even look around the farm feed the lambs and chickens with the owners David and Denise always on hand to have a chat. Its great that we can be sure of a warm welcome and consistant high standards at Riding House Farm

Room Tip: there are two cottages to choose from,

We have just returned from a short break with friends. We stayed in Shepherds Cottage, Riding House Farm Castleton. It is one of two cottages in a barn conversion. We did not see the other cottage but, certainly in ours, so much thought and care had gone into the conversion and it's furnishing and fittings. Everything that you could need was provided and it was even decorated for Christmas, including a tree with lights on. Fabulous. It felt homely as soon as we arrived and was very comfortable and cosy. The views accross the valley were great and it must be so good to sit outside and BBQ in the summer months. We had lovely snowy scenes to admire. Denises was so helpful and thoughtful.

We were glad that we had checked out the location on Google Earth as the turning was hard to spot, literally being just an un-named lane, especially as we arrived in the dark.

Had a great time in the area and especially enjoyed the Christmas Concert in the cavern.

Thanks for making us so welcome Denise .

Look forward to a future visit.

We have had two wonderful holidays in both of Riding House Farm's cottages, firstly in Milkmaid's Cottage in 2010 and secondly in Shepherd's Cottage this year, 2011. It is hard to pick our favourite - we loved them both, and so did our dog Holly. Both cottages are very comfortable (especially the super king-sized bed in Milkmaid's!), spotlessly clean, modern clean bathrooms and we didn't want for anything. Denise and Dave were always around to give us fresh eggs and to tell us where any local attraction might be happening during our stay. A great bonus is to be able to leave your car and walk straight up onto the peaks from the cottage. A magical and relaxing place, lovely hosts, superb cottages and plenty of fresh air and beautiful scenery - what more could you want on holiday? Hopefully we will be back soon. At last finally got round to doing a review after our fifth visit to the Milkmaids Cottage at Riding House Farm.

We cannot praise this accommodation highly enough - immaculately presented with all you need for a home from home feel. The location is fantastic with beautiful views all round. A short walk into Castleton itself with plenty of pubs & eateries should you not want to cook. Also, idealy located for great local walks straight from your door or just a short drive to the dams or Chatsworth House just to mention two of the local attractions.

Our hosts, David & Denise, are now good friends and we love to listen to the farm goings on from David and join him in feeding the lambs and calves, and collecting freshly laid eggs.

Can't wait for next years visit.... :-)
