Nice little teashop, in a really nice part of England, but some minor errors on their part prevented it from being the enjoyable eating/drinking experience it could have been. We had booked through a Groupon voucher, for an afternoon tea in December, prior to going to the concert being held in The Devil's...!
1. Asked for a pot of tea for two, a small pot with two teabags was brought to the table (enough for a cup each). Asked for some hot water to top up which was complied with but extra teabag not put into pot so therefore, had to wait a while for it to brew and then was still very weak compared to first cup. Every other teashop I have ever been in has always given you a pot each so you both get two good cups of tea each or a larger pot! Interestingly, we had a massive jug of milk.
2. The teapot and milk jug were the stainless steel kinds you get in cheap cafes which leak everywhere. We therefore had a job pouring and had to use our napkins to wipe up all the wet stains off the table.
3. Due to difficulty on our part to get parked (it was really busy in Castleton this particular Saturday), we were a bit late for our reservation. The sandwiches obviously had been made ready for our booked appointment, and, although it was our fault we were a bit late, it would have been nice if the sandwiches could have been covered, until our arrival, as one side had started to go a little stale.
4. The sandwiches, scones, jam, butter and cream were brought out on a beautiful serving platter. Additionally, you could not find fault with the quantity of the food (there was plenty for two) however, the choice of sandwich filling were cream cheese/cucumber, cream cheese/salmon and egg mayo. My husband doesn’t like cream cheese or mayo so didn’t partake of the sandwiches (he’s a plain chedder cheese or ham man). It would have been nice to have been given a choice of fillings; they would also then have been freshly made.
All in all, I felt the price we paid through the Groupon Voucher was worth what we received; I would not however have felt the full price a worthy price to pay for the whole eating/drinking experience.
