“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

We have been regular visitors for lunch and dinner over the years at Donnington but what a disappointment our anniversary lunch turned out to be. Pre lunch drinks in the bar were spoilt by the stained and shabby chairs, in fact one armchair should have been put on the tip years ago.We had the three course lunch at £17.95 cooked well, now the re employment of their former chef. But the choice in 2014 - starters, prawn cocktail, melon, soup very retro!! oh perhaps goats cheese brings it up to date. Mains included sausage and mash, chicken and mash, fillets of sea bass - turned out to be one fillet cut into three.Vegetables were extra at £2.50 Desserts the usual chocolate cake, ice cream ,sorbets oh and locally sourced cheese and biscuits - Chedder ? Brie ? and Stilton served with grapes and celery, no, mine came with walnuts. Desperately needs TLC

We stayed one night midweek to break up a long journey and were disappointed from the start of our stay. Having phoned to book and asked for one of their "superior" rooms with courtyard access we were given a dark room with a small window and although quiet spacious was very depressing. When I complained we were upgraded to a Suite, which was very dated with a cracked wash basin in the bathroom, it did have 2 TV's both no more than 18 inches and a 1970's gas fire with a label for decoration only taped to it. The requested outside space a patio with a table and 2 chairs could have been very nice had an ashtray been provided for previous guests or the cigarette ends swept up and a little garden maintenance performed. This hotel could do with a complete makeover the decor is dated, the corridors smelt musty and carpets worn and torn. We ate in the restaurant and although the meal was well presented we left still hungry after 3 courses and breakfast was mediocre cold eggs and dry reheated bacon - my husband did say the coffee was good! At check out I found all the drinks which I had paid cash for in the bar the previous night had been added to my bill, there was no apology I was just asked if I was sure I had paid for them! In the whole the customer service was awful

Stayed at this hotel for the Download festival so wasn't really expecting much other than a bed and a handy location. When I checked into the room though I couldn't have been more surprised, the room was gorgeous and so was the immensely huge bathroom! I would definitely stay here again now I know how lovely the hotel is.

When I arrived a very warm and friendly welcome the food was very good, dinner and breakfasts all the staff members very helpfull and polite. The room was very clean and kept clean each night care was taken to tidy my notes but not messed up, clean towles offered. When you met any member a lovly smile and every request was responded to very quickly. The manager came to introduce himself (rather than hide as most hotel managers) The meeting room was kept clean and all teas and coffes served on agreed times. A great stay and a thank you to all the team.

We had booked one night, DB&B. After a mix up with booking we were upgraded to a suite which was lovely - own garden with table and chairs, large bedroom, bathroom plus lounge area. It was really lovely.
Dinner, somewhat limited choice, but the food was really good, breakfast freshly cooked to order and delicious - generous size too. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, so had a really fab stay.
There was so many positives, however I feel obliged to point out the negatives; the bed was not comfortable - I think probably needs a new mattress - which we did feedback to reception. Also, especially as we were in a suite, I was surprised by the lack of those little extras that make such a difference, TV was not free view, so basic channels only, no box of tissues, no bottled water, toiletries quite basic, limited tea / coffee facilities - could so easily be improved upon!

Four of us shared a room here after going to a festival nearby and we were impressed with the room which was spacious, comfortable and clean. We had a bedroom with a double bed and a living room which had two camp beds made up in it. The room also had its own garden area. With four of us sharing it was also very good value for money with breakfast included, compared to other hotels in the area on this weekend. The walk to Donington park took about 25 minutes. The quality of the breakfast could be improved though!

We stayed for one night at Donington Manor Hotel and we were hugely disappointed. We did not have a room in the main part of the hotel so I can't comment on those. We were put in a courtyard room. It was very basic and the bathroom was really small and stuck in the 1980s. I have no complaints about the overall cleanliness, apart from the windows which were dirty and had cobwebs on the inside. The outside door to the courtyard rooms had a hole where there once was a yale lock and the lock on the actual room was like a bathroom lock with a little button to lock the handle. I was slightly worried about security. Other observations:

Basic pine furniture (MFI style)
Dirty paintwork
No hairdryer
Tiny TV which was not much bigger than a laptop, and hardly any channels
Stained carpets
No hotel info in the room
Three old washing machines piled up in the courtyard
One old chair outside in the courtyard
Wobbly hot tap in bathroom

We had breakfast at 7am and then ran for the hills. We won't be going back.
