Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights over a weekend period for a Rock Festival held at Donington Park.
If you read my other reviews you will see I am not one of these Trip Advisor contributors who moans about everything. I work in travel, and I know what I, and my clients would expect.
To find the hotel was a real mission as it did not have the obligatory signposts that most of the other hotels in the vicinity appeared to do.
Check in was really simple and room was clean, although the bath/shower combo is now somewhat antiquated.
Jacuzzi/pool area is fine, although I did have some reservations regarding their changing policy when, having left the pool to change, I was alone in a changing room with a father and a his daughter who was maybe 5 or 6 years old. I don't know about you, but I was very reluctant to change until they had left the changing room area, which, as the little girl was playing around, took quite a while.
On the Friday, having returned from Donington Park, I found that someone had put a Do Not Distrub sgn on my door. As a consequence, my room had not been touched. I understand this, but what was totally untenable to me was the fact that there was no one there from housekeeping to even give the room a cursory tidy up, thus the room was totally untouched over two days.
The one thing I urge you all to be careful of is to check the board basis to which you are booked in. For reasons too complex to go into, although I was staying there for 4 nights, it was under 3 individual bookings. The first and last night were two bookings and the middle two nights were another booking. Problem being I was on B&B basis for the middle two nights and wrongly assumed that is what I was in for all 4 nights. Thus I ended up with a £15.95 breakfast on the first day which was fair enough, but the hotel never gets you to sign for your breakfast so you do not realise that it is payable, and I did not realise until I went to check out on the last morning. Had I realised I would not have spent another £15.5 on a mediocre breakfast when I only had a two hour drive home.
What annoyed me even more was the fact that I paid the bill, but I wanted to put a scomment on the bill that I was paying under protest, but Gordon, the front desk bod would not permit me to write anything on the invoice.
In concluding, the hotel wasn't bad, and strangely provided the best rates for single occupancy whwn compared with the other local hotels, but I have certainly stayed in better hotels than this Hilton
