“Overnight stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

Stayed just one night prior to an early departure from EMA.
Checked in just before the 2100 deadline ( tho there are arrangements for later arrivals). Owner seemed very pleasant and caring.Payment in cash or by cheque or a 3% charge is levied for using a credit/debit card.
Had single room no5 which was not too pokey and it has a share bathroom/toilet and/or share shower/toilet along the corridor which was no problem at all.
Room overlooked the busy road but it's quiet enough at night, although the thunderstorm was another thing! Sash window did not appear to open. Tea making tray was welcome.
Bed was large and very clean and comfortable. Secure free wifi.
Only a 5 min walk up a slight incline to the Castle Donnington bus station to catch the Skylink buses to the airport.
Left too early to have breakfast.

Stayed there as a friend was getting married up the road, arrived a bit early and owners were happy to let us park the car and drop our luggage off.. Only a small thing maybe, but some places would have been less than pleased to accommodate. The smell of fresh bread cooking had us looking forward to breakfast in the morning. We stayed in room 11 on the ground floor, wet room rather than bathroom, but shower was OK and what else do you really need for a short break away? Breakfast was exactly what was needed after a few drinks the night before, high in quality as well as quantity. Don't expect a 5* hotel if you stay here, don't be worried about it though,I'd happily recommend to any of my friends.

The guesthouse is situated very close to two pubs the lamb and the Tudor... We drank in the lamb and the locals were lovely and engaging... The bar staff were brilliant and friendly, couldn't have asked for a better pub..! The room in the guest house was quite big and as we had the bottom floor we had the wheelchair access room which had a wet room... Very clean, nicely decorated... The breakfast lived up to its reputation and was tasty, my partner has wolfed theirs down before I could blink... I only had one problem, there is a light on the wall by the bed which after being left on for a period of time gets immensely hot... Hot enough that as I walked passed and brushed (I did not lean or sit on it) against it, it gave me a nasty burn...! I would recommend it though :) thank you

We take safety very seriously as you would expect, not to mention honed by decades in a safety role in the Offshore Oil business.

In five years no one has previously mentioned a problem with this light, but in response to the adverse comment, we have removed it, though we do wonder quite how this situation came about.

We also prefer to have such issues mentioned to us directly so we can take action immediately and not in response to comments made on line days or weeks later. The key to successful stays is communication. Preferably there and then with us the owners of the business.

This guesthouse was absolutely lovely. The people were friendly and the couple who own/run it were very lovely people!!
The rooms were clean and cosy for me and my partner. Would absolutely recommend and we will be staying again as it was a fabulous experience for us.
The location is fab, a few pubs that also sell food and a large co op just a few minutes walk.
Would prefer to stay here with the cosy "homely" feel rather than a clinical premier inn etc.
5 minutes drive from Donington Park so if you are attending an event there like we was it is perfect.
Absolutely fabulous. Thank you and it is a must stay!!! xx

Pete and Julie were great hosts for Download! You can definitely tell they are ready to cope with anything weird and random coming their way, which is essential for a weekend like this. Rooms were nice and clean and the service and breakfast was top notch. The "boot washing" procedure was great. You can tell they take pride in their guest house and want to make the experience enjoyable to all. They took the time to go the extra mile for their guests.

Very pleasant and helpful owners. Friendly welcome on arrival. Spacious room that was to a high standard. Nice pub nearby called the Cross Keys. Village Cars were a reliable taxi firm. In general Castle Donnington was a quiet and relaxing place to stay.
