I want to start by saying that the food, a T-Bone steak for me and a cheeseburger for my mum, was excellent. The steak was cooked exactly how I asked, and the chips were fantastic.
My concerns are with the place itself and the atmosphere. It's very austere. I didn't like having to fetch cutlery and condiments from a dresser, there were no table mats, if you wanted tea or coffee you had to fetch it from the bar. A large party had come in around the same time as us, so we were told, after quite a while, that there would be a delay whilst their meal was prepared. We waited for about an hour. As I said, I really liked the meal, but was surprised that there were no sauces offered with the steaks, this is very unusual nowadays.
I felt overall that the style of the pub was no nonsense boozer, but the food was better than that. Having a few tables set out properly and maybe even some music would make it more welcoming, although the staff were fine. The food is worth 4 stars, but the overall experience was a bit disappointing, there didn't seem to be much organisation, and the no frills approach seemed to be taken a bit too far. I understand that the people running the pub are fairly new to the business, they've got the main thing, the food, almost spot on, I hope that they're successful but I hope if they see these comments they take them in the spirit I've intended.
