“Really good food, service ok”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

We called in for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The sun was out so the place was quite busy. Unfortunately we walked in and were ignored for about 10 mins by 4 or 5 waiting on staff. We weren't sure if there was a wait for a table or just to jump on a table when someone left. We eventually got a table and once we ordered then food and drinks the service was ok. The food itself was really nice and good value.

“Great food, shame about certain customers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

Having tried most of the eating places in Ashbourne over the years and found them lacking, either in atmosphere or quality of food, we found Bramhall's. We took a seat in the light and airy front room but were irritated by a group of ladies on the next table who were talking and laughing extremely loudly. The waitress brought us a menu and discreetly told us that there was a free table in the back room if we wanted a quieter environment. We moved, to find two other couples who had done the same, and were later joined by others. I'm not sure how a cafe deals with a situation like this? The ladies were clearly enjoying themselves but to the detriment of other customers. One couple who joined us in the back room said they were about to leave until the waitress spotted them, brought them back and offered them a table in the back room. Yes, it was quieter in there, but also rather dark and gloomy, having no windows onto the street. However, the food was excellent. I had the best smoked salmon I have ever tasted (from the Inverawe smokery), and my husband had a triple decker bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich on delicious granary bread. The coffee was also up there amongst the best - we bought some beans to take home. I must mention too the lager made by the Freedom Brewery in Staffordshire - the nicest lager we have ever had, so light and refreshing. It is clear that Bramhall's are passionate about offering the very best quality, both in the cafe and in the adjacent delicatessen where we bought some goodies to take home. The cakes looked very tempting, although I am not a "cake person". All in all, it's become a "must visit" every time we are in Ashbourne. If only one could "vet" the customers .........

“Lovely afternoon break”

Enjoyed an excellent break in the Cafe. Welcoming staff, good service and well presented excellent food. Also shopped in the Deli which has a great selection of different sorts of things. Thoroughly recommended.

“Lovely surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013 via mobile

Myself and my partner went on a spontaneous drive from Derby to Thorpe cloud. The satnav took us through Ashbourne and thought it looked like a sweet little place so parked up and went across the road for a quick bite.

I had the bacon, brie and cranberry roll and it was so yummy! My partner had the cheese and chutney roll which I think was one of the only choices for vegetarians but he's used to not having much choice and I'm sure if we had asked then they would have sorted something out (maybe a brie and cranberry?) The rolls came with crisps and a really lovely salad - it had allsorts of stuff in there! I had a hot chocolate with marshmallows and my partner had a latte. Both were perfect to warm us up on a cold day. We were shown the cake board and there was so much choice! Unfortunately we didn't have chance to order cake because they were closing soon but we certainly will be going back to try the orange and passionfruit cheesecake!

I also bought a couples of frozen bread rolls from them (they didnt have any left again as they were closing) but they gave me instructions to put them in the oven the next day and they were delicious!

We will definitely be going back soon :)

“Lovely lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

We had a warm and pleasant welcome at Bramhall's when we stopped by for lunch, and the attentive service continued throughout our visit. The menu was lovely with plenty of choice. The food arrived promptly and was well presented. Very fairly priced for such excellent quality food and we are definitely looking forward to returning and sampling more from the menu when we are next in the area!
