This restaurant presents as quite modern, with a pleasant atmosphere - although the service was a 'little standoffish', for what should be a more friendly and informal environment.
Sadly the food did not quite live up to what one might expect from the initial impression. The Specials were already finished by 1.00 pm and apart from a pasta dish everything else on the mains came with 'chips' - a request for some alternative form of potato did not achieve anything as the mashed potato advertised on the menu had been withdrawn - although still listed.
The serving of white bait was quite generous, but the fish was flabby, lacking the crispness - that one expects. The steak was quite small for the price and the pasta tasted as if it was based on a sauce in a jar, with some bacon pieces and a piece of chicken added as an afterthought. Although staying in the locality we did not feel that this place warranted a second visit and would recommend the local in Denstone as a better bet.

Thank you for writing a review for The Duncombe Arms. We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your experience at our family pub. We think our front of house team as being a really friendly bunch so surprised at your comments.
Early in the week specials that would have been on the weekend main menu are dependent on what is left and on this occasion these specials were not numerous so we apologise that the specials had been taken off.
We will note the concerns you have raised in order to improve our food offering.
