“something for everyone”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

Carsington is lovely for a vist, you can cycle round it, walk round it, sail or windsurf on it or simply sit in the cafe with a lovely view of the water and watch others do that! The playground is great for kids having an older and younger kids section. It is also a great place to bring kids with their bikes as there is a nice flat easy section along the dam wall. In the summer it is nice to bring a picnic often better as the cafe can be very busy in mid summer too. In the visitors centre there are a few nice things for the kids to do too. You do have to pay to park but it is well worth it.

“Great place to take the family for a cheap day out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012 via mobile

This is basically a massive reservoir but with loads of space to ride bikes and run around. The visitors centre is interesting and there are also small boutique like shops selling outdoorsy stuff. There is a small cafe and also a larger restaurant selling everything from a coffee to a three course lunch. The restaurant is quite pricey and would advise to avoid on a sunny day as it gets v v busy.
Overall thus can be quite a cheap day out with lovely views.

“Beautiful and relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

This is a great place to go for a walk. We parked in the car park, went for a leisurely stroll round the reservoir, admiring the birds en route, then took a turn around the little shops and ended up with a cup of chocolate at a small cafe. A great, fuss-free day out!

“Excellent place for a bike ride”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

On a chilly Sunday afternoon in December we headed up to Carsington Water and it was a good afternoon out. We hired bikes and rode around the reservoir, be aware the route is muddy in the winter but good fun - there's a fair few hills so make sure your gears are working.

We stopped off at a few places and took in the view.

After the bike ride we went to the visitor centre and it's an interesting look at how our water sources are managed and looked after. The centre is free to visit, but be aware you have to pay for parking and it's pay & display so make sure you've got cash on you.

The cafe and shops in the visitor centre are nice, and they do a good hot chocolate as well.

“Cycling with young children”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

Took youngsters for a cycle ride and the flat wide paths are perfect for less confident riders. Nice little cafe for hot drinks and well kept facilities.
