We have just got back from a weekend stay.we went for Alton Towers which was 20min away.we found the site to be very welcoming and friendly.we arrived late Friday which wasn't to much of a problem just the sun had gone down! So putting up the tent took a little longer.but hay that's camping, the children went to the cafe&got some food for as all which was great! We did go into the bar for a hot cup of tea to be welcomed by the friendly staff.saturday night when we got back we found that there was a disco outside great night lovely atmosphere great way to finish our short break.the only fault I could find that there wasn't a mop to clean the shower floor so there was some mud&grass on the floor&20p charge nothing major.will be returning again. We stayed on field 6 which was great not to near the toilets but near enough, loved how the tents went round the outside of the main field so we could sit a watch the children play!

Just stayed 2 nights here. It's a good site BUT if you don't have children and you get a pitch near the children's play area you'll find it not very peaceful !
Pitches are good and showers have plenty of hot water ( extra cost of 20p for 4 mins. )

Took our caravan, got a pitch at the far end of field 3 which meant longer distance to the loo but away from the noise of older children in the evening. Picked the site because it had all the facilities we prefer - shop, showers, hook-up - plus extras - swimming pool, table tennis, play ground - it was in the area we were after and you could ride straight onto the Tissington trail from the site.

We arrived after the bank holiday weekend but still in school holidays so busy but not rammed and then very quiet when term time hit. Noise and facilities were all good, no problems. It was great riding onto the trail from site but coming back up the hill was a bit of a slog! Our boys - 6 and 3 - were able to ride around site on their bikes and it felt very safe.

What they don't tell you - there are no visitors allowed on site so our family couldn't meet us there. The table tennis is outside so a no go if windy. The cafe was not open during our second week so wifi access was only available from the playground bench outside!

Room Tip: If you want to eat out - do your research before going as Ashbourne eateries not easy to find/guage

What a great site, we stayed here for 6 nights in field 3. Had a great sleep every night as it is very quiet after 11pm. The shop is well stocked with camping equipment and staff here and in reception were extremely helpful. Swimming pool was a bit overcrowded but as long as parents stayed to keep an eye on things it was ok. We found the best time to go was when it was pouring with rain! Nice not to be too far away from toilets and showers but far enough to have quiet in the evening. Showers are pretty good too, 20p for approx 4 mins. Plenty of room to get changed and each cubicle door opens directly to outside. Great location and fantastic security, we can't wait to go back!

We stayed here for 3 nights the week before August bank holiday and I'm glad we left on the Friday before bank holiday weekend. The site was busy, but not packed, and there were not enough toilet blocks to service the camping pitches, we were on field 6, luckily at the top, otherwise the kids would have been peeing in the bushes. 20p charge for the shower??? After the £27 a night, plus extra for our second car, the showers should have been free. It rained heavily on our first night and the field had puddles everywhere, one group packed up and left because a massive puddle formed right in their porch, so not good if it rains. To be fair, we had food at the Inne which was reasonably priced and decent. Also, the on-site shop was well stocked with everything you may need. We would have hated being there at a busier time ( bank holiday weekend) and would have hated being anywhere closer to the main bit because of noise. There were a few first time campers around us who loved it, but they hadn't experienced anything else, so not to patronise, but they wouldn't know any better. We won't be going back to Callow Top.

After 10 years of camping abroad in various European sites we were reluctant to camp in the UK ... However , finding Callow top was a very pleaSent surprise as it offered not just pleasant scenery but also very good amenities . Unlike European sites that are adorned with flowers and things of beauty this is something that could be improved upon within the grounds. With a bit more insight the central area could be brilliant. Why not paint the drab cottages a colour other than that horrible council house brown from the 70's.....put a few large flower pots and plants around....must say the pub is a great facility and the food was reasonably priced and not your 'freddy freezer special' more outdoor seating would be good as people were bringing their own seating ,which is not ideal.
Must say the games room should be put in a museum of early 80's gaming! Quite nice for myself as I haven't seen these games since I was 15! Shame most of them did not work and I lost £4....
For today's kids it is not acceptable...and a bit of a joke!
Great to have a pool but it is far to small for the size of the site but at least it is there...
In answer to most people who say the toilets, showers, etc are to far away! Get real and get yourself a bike.....We never go camping without a bike and have stayed on sites 10 times the size of Callow so get with the programme! YOUR CAMPING......
As for people who are noisy after 11o clock.....glad to see you got thrown off..there are rules on campsites the world over and they are there for a reason....WISE UP...
The fishing lake is brilliant even though I didn't catch anything ....due to wrong tackle and not my lack of fishing expertise which I have in abundance!
It would be great to see more decent food in the shop...more fresh produce which would mean more organisation ....fresh bread in the morning would be great ...guy on a bike going round( very normal in Europe ) cheaper wine and more cheese lots of veg and fruit
The standards of the staff was excellent and the service attitude they delivered was beyond expectations and credit to you all!

I think that the owner should throw a lot more money into the site and make it really special....you would not-mind paying £35 a night for a sauna complex and electricity and water pipes for us tent people!
There was a nice mix of people and we will defiantly be returning in the future..
We are a family of 4 and the site is great for the kids (apart from the games room)
