“Marvellous times at The Mansion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

If you're visiting Cumbria or the West Lakes, it's definitely worth staying at the Mansion. This is an ideal central location, in the pretty harbour town of Whitehaven. Close to St Bees for a day at the coast and great for getting in and around the Lake district, Carlisle and Northumbria. Tom and Rob always make you feel very welcome and there is a great relaxed atmosphere in the lovely clean hotel. Always enjoyed our stay here and have returned time and time again. Nothing too much trouble for any guest and the fantastic breakfasts have to be tried. Popular for walkers, cyclists and tourists and great for families with the pool.

Room Tip: All rooms offer a great view, but some on the top floors give views of the town and harbour (especia...

Stayed here when we did a C2C ride, it was the first stop and Tom and Robert could not have been more helpful, unfortunately we couldn't take advantage of the pool as we arrived a little late!

Good rooms and a cracking breakfast included, I had the full English which was brill but they have a great choice from cereals to salmon and toast, nice big dining room as well.

Thanks for a great stay and we'll see you again soon :)

We required an overnight stay in Whitehaven and our local friend booked accommodation for us in The Mansion and what a good choice it was. We were welcomed by Tom whose friendly can do attitude immediately impressed us. The room was simply furnished but provided for all our needs was clean, warm and the bed was most comfortable, the shower was most efficient too. There is also an indoor swimming pool available to residents. The breakfast provided was excellent and of substantial portions. Tom and his assistants were most helpful and the whole establishment had a home from home feel about it. The premises are on a hill overlooking Whitehaven and there is good enclosed parking at the front. The hotel is furnished with interesting items and a historical fact is that William Wordsworth as a boy lived here for a period when the premises were a residential house. The best fact is that the accommodation is so reasonably priced it is doubtful that better value can be found in the local area. Should we be in the area again this is without doubt the place that we will be using for accommodation.

Booked the Mansion as an overnight stop while visiting some family in the area. Was amazed at Price £30 per head including breakfast is great but i was still sceptical, thinking this cheap cant be good... but it is!
We were told we could check in whatever time we wished so i opted for 12noon due to it being just me and my 3 year old son. We were made to feel at home straight away and were amazed when we saw the pool!
Tom (?) offered us use of the pool for not only us but my neice and nephew who i was visiting. this came in really handy when we got to 4pm and had run out of things to see in St Bees!
Room was clean, had lovely views and plenty of clean towels. only thing slightly negative is that our bed was quite hard and lumpy but im sure they arent all like that.

The owners very friendly little doggy Scamp made my sons day and was all he talked about all the way home the following day.

Breakfast the next morning was brilliant, friendly chef who took time to have a chat with us while our breakfast was cooking and made sure we had everything we needed.

All in all a brilliant place to stay, we are already trying to arrange our next visit - This time with Hubby in tow so that i can make use of that sauna while he babysits!
