I got married in this hotel in June 2012 and i must say what a nightmare it was. When i booked it i was amazed by the beauty of the gardens and the hotel's refurb was stunning, i was promised everything and anything would be done to assist in making my day as stressfree and amazing as possible. The management team were great and did what they promised until they disappeared without any warning and were replaced by the Klumps. I asked for a fvour to see if i could bring my dress up on the Thursday (married on Saturday) so i could hang it somewhere and they said i could because they had an empty room, they proceeded to charge me for its use! There was the hotel manager who couldn't care less about making the day special only about how much he could rip you off, We had to place a special order for my husbands drink they told us cases were in bottles of 12 so we ordered 2 they then went and got 2 cases of 24 the day after the wedding they made us pay for the 23 remaining bottles and not at cost price but only 50p cheaper than we were paying at the evening reception, the manager also brought my husband a drink to the top table and said congratulations, after the meal the anager requested the money for said drink, my husband never even asked for it!!! We also noticed the 'not be sold separately' sign on the bottles afterwards! We had to write our own menues, we had to decorate the whole of the restaurant and conservatory for the wedding, We were told what ever we decorated WE had to tidy up, my mother prepared the honeymoon suite with rose petals and we were told to clean them up before we left, we didnt get the napkins colour coordinated as they promised so i had to get some ribbon to tie them up with in my colour scheme. My brother found silicone sealant in his meal, the beef was bleeding that badly barely anyone ate it but were offered that they would grill it for them! At breakfast we had a waitress chatting like old friends and not holding her P's and Q's.
The night before my wedding all the girls stayed over for a girly night we went downstairs at 8.30 to find the lights off and everyone had gone......... We could not get drinks of snacks!
I have spoken to the hotel owner who is the most pompous, uncaring person i have ever spoken to. needless to say he was not aware the hotel manager was not utilising the cash register for the bar........ he obviously wasn't getting enough of a salary and decided to take commission from the tin he had!
I wanted to get married and have that special place we could return year after year but unfortunately i wont be returning and we will have to create another special place we can go on our anniversary!

As the owner of the hotel I was obviously somewhat shocked about this review as obviously we had many very happy couples getting married at Eden Lodge. It is true that there was a change in management and that on this occasion, communication and handover weren't perfect especially with regard to what was included in the price and what wasn't. However, my investigations (based on conversations with staff who attended this particular wedding) paint a somewhat different picture with regard to events, nevertheless, this said, the manager who was responsible for the execution of this event is no longer with Eden Lodge. The reviewer states that she had spoken to the owner and describes him "the most pompous, uncaring person I have spoken to". I would like to state that I have never had a conversation with the reviewer, and I am puzzled as to why she makes this claim. All in all, lessons have been learnt from this occasion, and for the things that really went wrong I sincerely apologise.
