“Perfect B and B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013 via mobile

We were met by Margaret and shown to our room, which was well coordinated and well supplied with all the items needed to make a pleasant and restful night. We were given a huge pot of tea, fruit cake with cheese followed by scones. We hardly had room for our evening meal despite having walked all day. In the morning Margaret made sure that everyone had exactly the breakfast that they wanted! The packed lunched were full of delicious home made treats. Special thanks to the 'sock fairy' who returned our very wet socks freshly laundered!

My wife and I stayed here for two nights during our coast to coast walk and it was fantastic. Margaret was great and very welcoming. Tea, scones, and other snacks were always available and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Each breakfast was individually cooked and very good, as were the packed lunches. Definitely the best B&B so far. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for one night on a hiking trip in the Lake District. This is a clean, cosy and typical British bed and breakfast. Our room was small but cosy, youighy want to opt for a room in the front as noisy railway is on the backside. That said our host Margaret was incredibly friendly and helpful and served us a marvelous tea upon arrival in a meat garden with scrumptious scones, cakes and savouries. She also sent us on our way with a tasty British breakfast.
Brookfield made the stay in tiny Shap worthwhile.

This was out 4th day on Coast to Coast, do not worry it is at the end of the village, the walk to the end of the village is worth every step. Margaret is the perfect host. When you arrive we had Scones, Chocolate cake and sausage rolls. We arrived wet and coats we taken to be dried. The breakfast is very good and there is not just normal cooked breakfast as a choice. I had my packed lunch brought to me on a silver salver.

We stayed here as the 2nd night on our Westmorland Way walk. We were welcomed by the owner who invited us down to the lounge for tea and warm scones....delicious. Rooms were very comfy and clean. There was a full choice for breakfast and all the fruit was fresh. We booked a pack lunch and I have to say it was the best one we've ever had from a B&B especially the home made cakes that were included :) Everything here was of a very high standard with great attention to detail.

Margaret is the owner and she invites her guests into her home which is as are the rooms pristine clean with modern bathroom fittings. We were wet and tired when we arrived but Margaret took our wet walking clothes and laundered and dried them for us for morning requesting no additional payment . We were looked after well and had a lovely breakfast before setting off to Kirkby Stephen. A lovely homely stay

We stayed at Brookfield House while walking the Coast to Coast. It was very comfortable and although we had the smallest room, we still had a very nice stay. The owners are very, very friendly and welcoming.
For Coast to Coasters, it's worth noting that this B&B is at the far end of Shap. At the end of a very long day (very hot when we walked from Patterdale) it's probably about a mile through the village to get here. Although it's worth the walk it feels like a long way!
