“Great value break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2014

We stayed at this delightful B & B for two nights towards the end of March and can thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting simple but clean and comfortable accommodation in South West Cumbria. The staff were friendly and very helpful and the generous breakfasts were a delicious way to start the day.
As part of the two night deal we were given free access to the extensive grounds of Muncaster Castle, with numerous paths and trails through the beautiful gardens and parkland. We also had free entry to the Owl Centre which was an unexpected bonus..

Room Tip: We stayed in Room four, which overlooked the Owl Centre and the parkland beyond.

Nicely restored B and B - although they also allow you to do self catering here - and the beds are very comfy. The cooked breakfasts are amazing and overall it is very good value. All the staff are really welcoming.

Booked the room for New Years Eve, convinced after reading the reviews.

We arrived to a nice welcome and were shown around the building. We had room 7 which is outside the owl centre so if You are easily irritated by hooting noises may wish to stay on another room as they're quite loud. I personally thought it was relaxing though. Nice sized room and bathroom. Very clean. It didn't bother us as we were there for an escape, but the TV in the rooms was down the whole time we were there. There is a sizeable lounge with games and tv (working) should you stay in for the evening. Fully equipped kitchen and dining room also for self catered evening meals/lunches.

The location is great. Ideal for an escape, completely rural. For our NYE celebrations we walked to the local village of Ravenglass and visited the Ratty Arms. Highly recommend it with great welcome, service and atmosphere. The walk was 25 minutes and if doing it in the dark, is pitch black. The only illuminations are of that of the occasional passing vehicle. Worth it though.

Breakfast was a very good full English in the cafe, you are able to choose what you would like and how much of it.

After breakfast we had a walk around the grounds. Absolutely beautiful setting, lovely castle and wonderful views. Shame the Owl area was closed but no complaints since it was New Year's Day.

Very nice.

We have just enjoyed a relaxing and enjoyable couple of days at Muncaster Castle enjoying the christmas extravaganza and accomodation at the Coachmans Quarters.
As a number of reviews point out the accomodation is not state of the art of luxurious, but it is certainly clean and comfortable with good quality bedding and towels. We went with children and had three rooms, one having a small kitchen and lounge area, You can order food from the cafe to be warmed in the large full kitchen in the accomodation area, the breakfast is very good and you can choose what you would like from a list, in whatever quantity you would like. On a whole I would recommend the coachman quarters for a laid back relaxing break, but not one filled with luxuries and spa treatments.

This is a wonderful place to stay! Besides oozing history, the room was very well appointed. A large flat screen TV, a nice big bathroom with power shower that actually had power, great broadband and the room was spacious and spotlessly clean. By far the biggest plus point though was not the fantastic breakfast, or the brilliant staff.....No, it was the breathtaking surroundings and miles of gardens! And I haven't even mentioned the castle itself, or the Owl sanctuary! A wonderful place for a short stay if you're visiting the Lakes!

We stayed for two nights. Lovely big, comfortable bed in a clean room overlooking the owlery. The breakfast was very well cooked. We enjoyed walking round the beautiful grounds of the castle after the day visitors had gone in the evening and again in the morning before they arrived. After watching a beautiful sunset over the water at Ravenglass, we had a very nice meal at the Ratty Arms. We found Muncaster to be a good base for getting to Wast Water (Britain's favourite view) and for the car parks to climb Scafell Pike.
