“Wonderful Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

Really enjoyed our 3 night break at the Screes inn; it's very clean and in a great location! We had dinner every night there as the menu choice was really good and the atmosphere in the bar at night was always nice especially with the added touch of the candles in the wine bottles! Also really enjoyed the pub quiz on the Sunday night! The Staff were also very friendly and helpful!
The Screes Inn really made the holiday in the lake district more memorable so I would definitely recommend it!

If you are visiting the Lake District I would recommend driving from Ambelside to Keswick and from there on to the road to crummock water (Buttermere)... the scenery and the lakes are lovely and well worth the drive (or cycle if you're fit enough!) !

We stayed along with our friends over the 2nd week of Easter for 3 nights. The rooms were clean and comfortable with recent refurbishments evident and still ongoing to further improve. The English breakfast was one of the best for choice I have had - just the right amount for a days walking! In the evening the food represents good value for money and talking to the chef he is further trying to improve. The bar staff were particularly friendly and there were a good selection of real ales and a few malts to try! Great location and are already looking forward to our next visit.

Myself and my hubby booked a night here following an offer we received. For the price of the room, we didn't hold huge expectations but were looking forward to a night away. What a place..... the location is idyllic! Perfect picture postcard, English wilds getaway. Easy access to Wast Water lake (which is stunning) and lovely walks on the doorstep. The inn was instantly welcoming. By the end of the evening we felt we had been regulars for years - (a quick drink in the inn opposite was just as welcoming) and they were very welcoming to our dog too who happily settled himself by the fire. Food is lovely - my only negative is that I would have loved to see a steak in the menu. Homemade crumble is highly recommended. The room was basic, but clean and very comfortable. Our room also had access to a separate bathroom that was beautiful! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and had a lovely comfortable nights sleep. We will certainly be visiting again in the future.

lovely stay in wasdale in march (wowcher deal),even though the weather was cold the welcome was warm and a logfire to come back to was a delight. Scamp our scottie was made very welcome . Apart from the breathtaking views from wastwater to the snowy hill tops, Scamps highlight was the full english breakfast , Neils highlight was the Cumbria way real ale and my highlight was the beautiful sunday roast beef .
perfect for a "getaway from it all " as its very remote and away from the usual tourist route of the lakes . p.s. great quiz night with the locals on sunday night

After the delights of Wasdale on a clear, sunny winter's day we were shown to Room 7 with its very comfortable 6ft wide bed, compact but spotless en-suite and views of the Wasdale Screes bathed by the setting sun. The heating was timed to start late afternoon, but once on had plenty of capacity to keep the room snug. Our evening meals were excellent, with my sea bass in Thai broth giving a welcome deviation from the usual pub grub. Once a-bed the total lack of traffic and streetlights in the village ensured a good night's rest. Breakfast was cooked to order using local produce; an ideal start to the day. Looking forward to staying again

I stopped in here with my husband and child during half term and really enjoyed the stay, particularly the location, which is tucked away in a small village on the eastern side of the Lakes
We stayed in room 1 which is described as a small double but had ample space for an extra bed for our child. The ensuite shower room has a good size shower but limited legroom around the toilet. However we enjoyed the private use of the very spacious bathroom across the hall. There was plenty of hot water and I enjoyed a nice soak in the bath after a fab walk around Buttermere.
The rooms have benefited from new carpets and fresh paint. My criticism of the room was the socket positions and use of plastic trunking for wiring which looks unsightly in these period properties. Also it was a little cold at night evening with the radiator being on.
We ate both nights in the Screes taking advantage of the £15 for 3 courses (£5 for child) supplement agreed with the room rate. The food was good honest freshly cooked pub grub and met our needs. The criticism here was the limited menu which was varied so something for most tastes but no specials. We would have struggled to pick something for more than the 2 nights we stayed but we were advised this was due to it being quiet with only residents and a few others. Wasdale cheese from the local farm was selling fast too.
Outside there is a nice beer garden area with childresns play area with swings and goal post
