“Great food/beer/welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2014

Being new to the area and on holiday we plumped for the Captain Nelson as it looked clean and was dog friendly. On our first trip we had a couple of drinks and sat outside and as the day turned to evening a friendly member of staff told us that we were welcome in the pub with our dog so we moved inside and settled in for a meal. The food was of excellent quality, fresh, very well cooked and well presented. The menu ranged from standard pub grub to more resteraunty style dishes. Between us we had something from most areas of the menu and all were splendid including the best vegetarian lasagne my daughter had ever had. (Also the onion rings are to die for!)

We returned a couple of times during our weeks stay including another evening meal. Although the bar was busy we were very well attended to and the food was as excellent on this visit.

I wish Maryport wasn't 250 miles from home as this would be a very nice 'local'

“Perfect for a wholesome meal with the family after a long coastal walk.”

Eight of us turned up at 4pm and were made very welcome. Great choice of meals for the whole family, including vegetarians, and generous portion sizes.

“Good wholesome pub food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

Me and my 7 year stopped by for lunch here before going to play mini golf at the aquarium.

The staff were very friendly, the food arrived promptly, and not only was it tasty, well made and piping hot, but it came quickly and without fuss.

The staff checked on us several times to see if it was ok, and quickly removed plates once we'd finished. Will definitely go back.

“Wow what a feast!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

Realised we were hungry when passing and called in on spur of the moment. There was quite a number of large groups in and only one serving at the bar at that time so had to wait a while to be served. Big variety of drinks on offer - very impressed with that. I had the locally-caught fish with chips and husband had the home-made pie and chips. The portions were very big and the food delicious. Asked if they had WI-FI and was told yes, but unfortunately they couldn't find the bit of paper with the password on - wasn't urgent so no problem with that.
We didn't need to eat for the rest of the day! I would certainly recommend giving the Captain Nelson a try.
