4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

went here in march , the food was very nice I had lasagne which was lovely and plentiful the service was fast the only complaint is while your having your meal there is no privacy it is what it is a pub , but don't let that stop you cause the food is worth it . I would go back !

Lovely, friendly, little family run pub, good menu with something for everyone. Well worth a visit! Recently refurbished with change of owner. They have done a lovely job of creating a welcoming environment.

“Great customer focus, good food & wide range of drinks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

We stumbled into the Captain Nelson tavern by chance at the end of a windswept walk down the coast from Allonby to Maryport. The welcome was immediately warm and friendly from the family run owners. The pub has been refurbished with wooden floors, stove fire & colourful juke box. Impressive range of whiskeys, a couple of tasty real beers & some interesting spirits, e.g. Crystal Skull vodka. Mostly home made pub food, in good sized portions, including tasty fish & chips, vegetable lasagne, pan fried salmon fillet, jacket potatoes, thai fish cakes, crispy grilled black pudding, local cumberland sausage etc. The pub has an open spacious feel to it - but the most appealing feature is the owners who clearly relish in fulfilling their customer's needs. It's just across from the Wave centre & near the Aquarium. If you fancy a refreshing walk you can stroll along the promenade towards the golf course and back. Highly recommended !
