“Fantastic views but.....................”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2009

Just got back yesterday - we picked here after my mate found it as one of the top 10 camp sites in the UK.

Well for the view I cannot disagree - totally fantastic - however the view comes in after the HORRENDOUS drive to the site - ok its a farm on the side of a hill (hence the name perchance?) the road is simply an accident waiting to happen, it might be your car that grounds out, or a child running into you, or a scrape due to the fact you have reserve back 200yards should a car come t'other way.

Let me not underestimate the access road - it's a disgrace plain and simple and would suggest the farm reinvests some of the cash it's coining in into their infrastructure.

From the name there aren't too many flat pitches so get there early - in fact get there early for any pitch as it was "bobs full house" when we went.

I am a bit confused by the previous review on the shower facilities - if breeze block walls, wood panel shower doors, a concrete floor and hundreds of cob webs are "your thang" then you will love this place.

Also I got bitten to absolute buggery as they were everwhere! A tip I picked up after is Avons skin so soft - deters them.

Got told off twice on the first night for talking - hairy muff I suppose however it was only 10-30.

In short great views but if intend to tour from this site - your car will be totally battered after a few days.

Won't be going back

Friendly welcome, made to feel like one of the family and considering there were 50+ campers on site "Thats a big family".
The view was fantastic from our site position "Mind you, it would have been no matter which way the tent faced" Some people had alarm clocks, we had freely roaming sheep and new born lambs which bleeted and bar's at all hours but so sweetly you didnt really care. There is a tea room on site with excellent beverages and a fine selection of freshly baked cakes..."we recommend the walnut & date slices", there is a local pub, horse riding centre and hundreds of walks, also a steam boat trip across ullswater and a hire a boat scheme for around £15....BUT! The highlight of this trip has to be one of lifes simple pleasures which most people cant get a decent one of: And thats a shower. The onsite facilities include very clean toilets, a wash room with sinks, washing machines and dryers and the most amazing showers.Beautiful hot water and almost as powerful as a home power shower "we are coming back just for this2 (and the cake).
The fantasic Andrea welcomed us as she does everyone with a friendly face, humourous banter and a warm personality..we felt very much at home and will return as oon as we have time.
