5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

We love this hotel and it never disappoints, Jonathan and his staff are fantastic and nothing is ever too much for them to make your stay as wonderful as possible. This is the second Xmas we have spent here and we have booked again for Xmas 2014. We usually come at least two or three times a year and love it more every time we come.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front give you a really good view.

Just returned from a twixmas break at this great hotel, the staff were brilliant ,organised and worked very fast and efficient.
We had a double room on the first floor, which had just been renovated,it was not the biggest room we have stayed in,but had everything required .
The food was brilliant both breakfast and dinner, liked the idea of slot allocation for dinner, and never felt rushed.
We would definitely stay here again.
I have gave the hotel a 5 star rating but a few negative points were as the hotel is old it creaks my word does it creak but if other guest showed consideration for there fellow guests they would not jump about on the floor above late at night, barge down the corridors slamming their bedroom doors also the adjoining room every time they opened and closed their draws it banged against the wall at our headboard, could not understand why anybody wanted to open as many draws late at night ,you could also hear people on the toilet.this would not stop us coming back but we would try and book a top floor at the end of a corridor or bring ear plugs or maybe some of the guests can show a bit of consideration at night.
The Lake District does not need me to say how great it is,the weather was terrible but you can still get out and about, but if you don't the hotel has great lounges and provide games, cards etc, wifi is available in the bar but I did pick up bt wifi at the bedroom window .
The value for money was fantastic,we stayed at a b&bs last year just further up along the lake and it was more expensive than here without an evening meal
Well done the Patterdale Hotel team brilliant

Room Tip: Top floor room looking towards the lake

WE have recently returned from a 5 night break at The Patterdale Hotel. On arrival we were welcomed and our restaurant times were sorted to accommodate us which we were very grateful for. The room was comfortable, but in need of refurbishment, but we later found out that they are in the process of doing the rooms and just hadn't got to the area where our room was. However the room was warm and spotlessly clean. The food was good, even though at times a little on the "chewy" side with regards to the meat. I had mainly the fish dishes which were delicious. One thing we did not care for was that the meal came ready assembled and we would have preferred to choose the amount of vegetables and gravy/sauces we had with our meal. We will definitely be going back and can recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a good base for the Lakes alongside excellent service from all staff without exception.

Room Tip: It is well worth paying the little extra for a lakeside room on the front. Wonderful views to wake u...

Have had yet another great stay in this lovely hotel,I echo all the positive reviews that are sent to Tripadvisor on a very regular basis. It's location in the heart of Patterdale will appeal to seasoned hill walkers and also guests who just want to relax and enjoy the beauty of the lakes in a very tranquil setting. The Patterdale Hotel offers warm comfortable accommodation and food that is second to none. All the staff are lovely and have the guests best interests at heart. We have been coming here for quite a few years now and look forward to many more visits.

Room Tip: Front rooms with Lakeland view always good for first time visitors especially on second floor

A large group of ramblers stayed for the weekend and I have to say it was fantastic. The staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and the hotel was very clean and warm to the point of being a little on the tropical side. Food was very good and all in all I couldn't fault the whole weekend. Value for money is outstanding and I can't wait to go back again. I really don't know how they do it for the amount they charge. Just wonderful.

We have just stayed at the Patterdale Hotel again. If you like walking and good food with pleasant people and a cosy atmosphere then this is the place for you. The weather was very kind to us and we got in lots of walking. The welcome on arrival was lovely. A warm welcome with tea/coffee and warm mince pies. The food there is absolutely fabulous and plenty of choice. Do not try and diet while you are there - you have no chance the food is too tempting. Even the packed luches pack a punch. We will definitely be going back again. Been twice now and my daughter and granddaughter have been also at our recommendation. My gandadughter spent time swimming in Ullswater as sadly the hotel does not have a swimming pool.Well worth a visit time and again. If you can't stay at the hotel - try going in for the evening meal if they have room - it s great. They also do cake of the day with a cuppa - tempting or what. We'll be back soon. Well done.

Room Tip: Choose one on the top floor so that so-one is walking above you when you are trying to sleep.

Stayed here last weekend for the third time, and similar to our first two ventures, everything was spot on! I don't know where to begin regarding praising The Patterdale, the breakfasts, the evening meals, the room,ALL were great! I cannot recall ever staying in an establishment with such polite, helpful, and obliging members of staff, nothing was too much of an effort for them, each and every one was superb!

Having read a few other comments, the negative ones especially, all I can assume is that you've either been very unlucky,or you're expecting Moet+Chandon vintage champagne for Fosters lager money. For ourselves, whilst The Patterdale's official accreditation is 2* ,I can honestly remark that I've stayed in several 4* places over the years, which wouldn't come even close to the standards that this place offers.

Thanks to all of the employees of this hotel once again!!
