“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

We love staying at the Patterdale Hotel because everyone is so friendly and the food is excellent. Over the last 10 years we have stayed at the Patterdale Hotel on an average 2- 3 times a year, and we have always enjoyed each visit. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. The rooms are always kept clean and tidy. We have just returned from a week at the Patterdale and again we were not disappointed. The weather wasn't great but the hotel was lovely and warm and there was always plenty of hot water for a much needed bath after coming in from a walk on the fells.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking front of hotel are brighter with more light coming in, however, all rooms are comf...

Our first stay at the hotel was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful in fact when we returned to our room following breakfast we found clean towels and a tidy bedroom!.
The standard of the food was very good, a well stocked breakfast buffet with the option of extras such as poached eggs or kippers. Dinner service was ultra efficient, the lamb on the first night was exceptional. We would say that the whole stay was great value for money; we ordered packed lunches as we were intending to be out on the Fells all day. Sandwich, potato salad, cake and a mineral water for £4.95!
The bar prices were also very reasonable, the price you would pay in a pub not a hotel, we will be back.

Room Tip: We had a room with a view of Place Fell, very nice

Our third stay here and not disappointed. The food is very good and service excellent. Very attentive and pleasant staff. Face lift in public rooms was an improvement. Great atmosphere on "Xmas Day" with very good entertainment and even a visit from Santa ! Excellent value for the price paid. We definitely will be returning.

Room Tip: worth paying extra for superior room.

have stayed at the patterdale fifteen times over the past 4 years and it just gets better. The place has had a little bit of a face lift in the resaurant and bars and some of the rooms have been refurbished this brings it a little more up to date. The staff who run the hotel are as pleasant as ever and the food even more tasty. There are numerouse walks from the doorstep of the hotel we discover new ones everytime we stay not just the well know ones st sunday cragg hellveylyn ect. Will be back inbetween christmas and new year.

Room Tip: worth the extra for a lakeland room

The hotel was clean and tidy if a bit tired. Food was good and served quickly and staff courteous.
Atmosphered quite noisy. There was a quiet lounge, but a TV available, so if you wanted to sit and read and someone wanted TV there was nowhere peaceful to go.

Have been at least 20 times to the Patterdale Hotel. The hotel is located close to Ullswater and Patterdale is the best base for climbing the Eastern Fells, including the famous Strding Edge on Helvellyn. Wainwright stayed there in 1989 when he filmed the Coast to Coast Walk with Eric Robson. Patterdale was Wainwright's favourite village in the Lakes.

The staff are friendly and the value is outstanding.

The car park is a little small but you can park for free across the road.

Room Tip: You pay a little extra for a room with a view. If you haven't stayed there before this is worth...

My husband & I stayed here from Tuesday to Friday & had an great stay. We also managed to get a deal on the internet. We had a lovely superior front of hotel room on 2nd floor. Room 230. We received a warm welcome & were made to feel special, nothing too much trouble.
The meals were excellent to say the least. We were certainly spoiled for choice. I'm really fussy when it comes to food, and it also has to be piping hot. Well I didn't have any worries here as everything was cooked to perfection & hot.!. As it is the start of the festive season in many hotels they had a full Christmas dinner if you so wished. The Bar was well attended with prompt service. On Thursday night we were entertained by a singer who sang & played a wide variety of music to suit everyone, a great night. We had a surprise visit from "Santa" who popped in to deliver a present for everyone there. Certainly a nice touch which was much appreciated. The Patterdale is ideally situated to visit other parts of the Lake District also. We will definately be making a return visit.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of hotel have the best view
