“Lagom!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

There is a Swedish word that is 'Lagom'. (pron; largom). It means something is just right. Not too hot or too cold, not too big or too small.....etc.This place is lagom.
It is almost a home from home - clean ensuite rooms with great shower, boot tray, TV on wall, tea/coffee etc (I had room 7 which is the biggest) enough space for me and walking gear.
We were 4 mates walking in the snow, Helvellyn and Pikes roundtrips. 15 miles a day - return to hot shower - bit of tele - cup of tea - nice and very prompt dinner - beers..........perfect. The restaurant was full both Fri and Sat nights providing a great atmosphere, helped along with very friendly and obliging staff, including Colin and Ian and a lovely waitress who was spot on.
Will def be back! Thanks again for a nice hospitable stopover.

Room Tip: Room 7 esp if a couple - its the largest.

The bunkhouse was good budget accommodation however the mattresses were terrible, you could feel all the springs in them. Good shower block with the hottest campsite showers ever!

The fact hat we could take a dog too was a bonus. Communal cooking areas were fine, just need 50p for the gad

10 blokes, Friday to Sunday, a works trip to climb Helvellyn ( wonder if that happens much now ) The rooms very good, warm and clean. Enough rooms with single beds, not to get too close to workmates. Breakfast spot on. Other meals paid for, around average for the area pricewise, but a bit better class. ( Try the Lamb Henry ) The manager and staff were really helpfull. Outside the main building, in season, a ramblers come campers pub on site. Quiz night Saturday ( after our walk in dreadfull conditions ) a friendly place to go and relax, ache, talk. I have stopped here four times, and been in for food or a drink about thirty. Perfect for Fairfield, not bad for High Street, the energetic can do St Sunday Crag and Helvellyn from here, we drove. Camping in the summer brilliant ( weather permitting ) I do not have a interest in this Inn. From Pontefract myself, but of all the years I have been going up to this area of the Lake District. The Brotherswater Inn has usually been part of it in one way or another. Never lets you down. Can be very busy though, especially on a night in season or really bad weather.

Room Tip: Book early, tried for this June and can't entertain seven of us. You need to be anywhere than ov...

Good food, good beer, dog friendly. Say no more. Called in after a days walking in the fells. Felt most welcome in spite of being very wet. Was a quiet weekday in February but equally welcoming on previous visits in the height of tourist season.

We came here a couple of times last week for drinks and food after long walks around Brotherswater, we were made very welcome by the staff and we enjoyed a fantastic hearty meal with lovely ales, lovely clean and tidy and dog friendly too. Can't go wrong here and I certainly recommend it.

Ate here a few nights ago. Well needed food and warmth after a trek through the snow! The roaring fireplace was a welcome sight. The menu is good, lots of traditional lakeland meals and some not so local but sound equally good. Decent selection of beers. Prices are good.

Nice environment, friendly staff and a great location. Dogs are welcome
