“Our favourite place in the Lakes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

We stayed here in October as part of our honeymoon tour of the Lake District. Of the several establishments we visited this was by far our favourite, we even booked 2 extra nights as we didn’t want to leave!

The rooms were nice and cosy and very clean. There was a very handy tray for leaving muddy boots, what an excellent idea as we got very muddy with the typical Lake District weather!

Breakfast was a hearty full English, a must before a long day on the fells. Dinner in the evening was fantastic, big portions and very tasty. I would recommend the Cumberland sausage with mash, or the homemade steak and ale pie.

We will definitely be back.

Used this great hostelry many times over the last few years has good food, good beer and a lovely fire to warm up beside. Food a couple of weekends ago was really disappointing which is a first, what a shame, the sausage curl with apple was like something made of plastic and the apples were still crunchy. What a shame very disappointing as food here is usually so good.

We had lunch at the Brotherswater Inn last week after a walk in the area. Lovely pub with a big woodburner to sit next to, whilst enjoying the outstanding views of the fells. The pub is dog friendly, so we were allowed to bring our Collie in with us. We both chose homemade soup of the day - mushroom - and then filled rolls which was a mistake as the soup was delicious and filling and came with a warm ciabatta roll so we were pretty full after that. Managed to find space though - my brie and apple roll was realy tasty, served warm and came with chips and homemade coleslaw, and my husband's cheese sandwich came with crisps and coleslaw. The two young members of staff behind the bar were very friendly. Can't fault it - we'll be back!

I've just returned from a long weekend at the Brotherswater Inn. What a great place. I was especially impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of Colin. He recommended great walks and good whisky and helped me with my bag up to my room. Don't be put off my people's comments on the smallness of the rooms. Mine (room 8) was totally adequate. It had a large window that looked out down the valley. The bed was extremely comfortable, the shower so powerful I was literally plastered to the wall and there was a lovely attention to detail with a tray for putting your boots on, lots of towels, a special saucer for used teabags, lots of storage space for clothes etc.

The food is fine. I would have liked a little more variety with breakfast, perhaps an option of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, or black pudding with the full English, but these are minor points. The eggs were especially good as was the steak and kidney pudding.

Its location is excellent for walks all around so you don't have to touch your car and along with a friendly and buzzing atmosphere in the evenings I have no hesitation in recommending this place. Great value, friendly and comfortable. Do it!

We stayed at the campsite between 11/09 - 16/09 and we visted the Brotherswater Inn to eat on 2 occasions. unfortunately the Barn End restaurant/bar was closed which meant that the Inn was very busy during meal times.
The staff tried very hard to accomodate people wishing to eat, even though it was busy with campers and locals alike. We only had to wait ten minutes for a table.
The food was homemade and very tasty. The portions were plentiful.
We would recommend vistors to the campsite try this lovely Inn during their stay.

We stayed in the bunkhouse at beginning of September 2012, with our dog (everything from pub to camping is dog friendly)..Usually we camp, but decided to try bunkhouse out. it was different to what I expected as it was bunk rooms set around the main shower/toilet/drying room/shop building-with a shared kitchen. (Bit narrow and dark-not good to eat in sadly)

Room was clean, warm, had it's own toilet. It was rather dark and dingy, but no setting up and down of tent in the rain... (woah ho!!) Afterall, there is no need to spend alot of time in the room. on sunny evenings we took our bbq down to the campfield(2mins away) and spent the evening there, and on wet evenings we went up (another 2 mins) to the excellent Brothers Water Inn. (Barn Inn even closer-on site, but was closed during our visit)

All the facilities are brilliant- toilets and showers are in a very warm block, and water to showers was lovely and hot. were spotlessly clean (shut from 12-2pm for cleaning) There is an excellent washing/ drying room too. (freezer for ice blocks available) The shop has all the basics. staff very nice- they go the extra mile, helping campers out with their tents, and where best to pitch, etc.

The location is the real reason we all go to the lakes- and this spot is stunning. You are in a soup bowl of mountains, with Brotherswater lake minutes away.
Every walk in every direction is just great, whether you like a high level challenge or you just like to walk. Loads of cyclists around to...kirkstone pass is the road in or out towards windermere, which seemed a magnet for two wheeled mad people!! (I'm just jealous...not)

Anyway, whatever you come to the Lakes for, this is real Lakeland in all it's wonder and beauty- have a great holiday-we did.

Room Tip: we were in bunkhouse no.9 which has a door to outside, which i liked to open as was a bit claustraph...

Me and five friends camped there over the bank holiday weekend. What a lovely campsite with fantastic views. We eat at the Barn End and it was lovely. They also had a pub quiz on which was fun and we won. Staff there are great and very helpful. An all round great site. We will be going back there.
