Like many other reviewers we also recently stayed here on a Groupon deal, 2 nts B&B with dinner on first evening for £149.
Reception and waiting on staff friendly
Room, (10) large, but small bathroom with very temperamental shower and is waiting for refurbishment.
Hairdryer, fan, iron and ironing board.
Pool and hot tub
Food – nice evening meal on first night, well presented . although I would have preferred coffee included in the deal instead of wine.
Area of hotel desperately in need of updating . Very old tired building. Although some area look like they have been refurbished.
Shoddy housekeeping – hospitality tray not replenished, cups left dirty, rubbish bins not emptied, bed tidied not remade – and very slapdash at that – no hospital corners, towels not tidied.
Room very hot at night – unable to open window due to road noise and vent
Woken by loud music from ?kitchen first morning – Foo fighters – fortunately I like :)
Shower – very temperamental – going from very hot to very cold and no pressure.
Room had poor view – although there is nothing you can do about that.
Gym – only two pieces of equipment working
Steam room – out of order
On second night unable to eat in bar, due to large area of bar closed for private meeting (Freemasons) thus reducing table space. We ate in Bowness instead.
On the whole the negatives outway the positives. Although I am sure once the hotel has completed its refurbishment, and the cleaning and housekeeping issues are resolved, it will be worth a visit – at deal prices – it is not worth their ‘rack’ prices in its current condition.
On reflection we could have had B&B in a tried and trusted establishment in Keswick for £120 ( albeit, no gym etc) but in a room with views of Skiddaw and all other room facilities as here, including corkscrew and wine glasses and put the remaining £29 towards our first night evening meal.
Ask for a refurbished room, or one away from kitchen.
