“Great meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

We ate dinner in the River Room Restaurant at The Swan and had a really good meal. We've eaten here before and we were not disappointed at all. The choice on the menu is good, the sharing platter to start was amazing. There is a great atmosphere and the staff are really good. Can't wait to return.

“Slightly discouraging start to an excellent meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

I was meeting a chum prior to us working together over the following couple of days. I've eaten at The Swan before but only in the bar area. This time, as it seemed quite empty on this cold Sunday evening, we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant. We thought that there could be more choice on offer. When asked if there was a table free, the waiter seemed quite hesitant, taking a long time to peruse his spreadsheet on the computer before being able to give us a decision. Eventually he did, directed us to our table and asked if we could vacate by eight o'clock. This was fair enough as it gave us plenty of time, although we wondered from where all the people were going to emerge.
While not being disappointed in the past, I'd looked upon the fare at The Swan as being in the 'adequate but slightly overpriced pub grub' category. This is understandable for an upmarket hotel in a very popular tourist area. I have to say that the meal we ate on this evening was above that category and most enjoyable. We only had two courses so cannot comment on the starters. As a main course I had the duck breast in an orange sauce with a swede mash and it was delicious. Chum had pork and he was equally complimentary. For dessert it was a treacle tart with rhubarb and a vanilla ice-cream. Seemed to be an odd combination but it worked. Waitress had a bit of a problem with the black flat rectangular slate-like plate it came on as the boule of ice-cream slid off the plate when it came first time. No problem. Easily done.
With a couple of drinks the whole thing came to just under £30 each. Bit pricey for every day but not for a special meal every so often. Well done The Swan! I'll be returning, if you'll have me! BTW, we left by eight and the restaurant was heaving!

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

Heavy snow and blocked roads meant we couldn't reach our holiday cottage and I can't imagine anywhere better to get stranded! Our room was spacious, quiet and the bed was comfy. We were at the far end of a corridor and the wireless signal was just about strong enough. We ordered room service - which arrived incredibly quickly and was delicious. The breakfast was also good - plenty of choice and the staff were quick to rearrange some chairs to make way for a baby seat. Our little one is only 4 months, but I noticed they also have a large room with stuff for young children to play with. I also used the gym, pool and sauna. We paid a special offer price for bed and breakfast (50% off!) and for that money, we were delighted. Given the location, the quality of food, atmosphere, friendliness of staff, spa facilities, view from our window and good service, it would have been worth the full price too.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

My husband & I stayed at The Swan Inn for 3 nights recently. Very relaxing & enjoyable time. The spa treatments are highly recommended. All staff very pleasant & helpful. We enjoyed various items from the breakfast menu & also from the bar/restaurant menu. Lovely view from our room onto the river & the bridge. All ready to back later in the year.
