I have just returned from an amazing one night stay at this hotel. After reading a few negative reports on here, I wasn't really expecting much, especially using a discount voucher. But to my surprise this hotel provided me with more than 4 star service.
On arrival I was greeted by not one but two receptionist who were very helpful, and cheerful (Denise & Tina). Everything was explained to me and to be totally honest i forgot most of it before i walked away from reception, but not to worry because I was provided with a welcome pack, which explains everything you need to know about your stay.
My offer included a standard double room, bed and breakfast and a 30 minute Indian head massage. Because the hotel Spa was full, we were offered an upgrade instead of the treatments at the point of reservation. This wasn’t a problem to me as the hotel didn’t have to offer anything in place, as the voucher does state subject to availability and this was the only date I could go.
Bedroom: My room was a Four poster room (103) which has an amazing view of a fast flowing river. The room its self was clean and spacious and the decor was fresh and modern. The only downside was that the room doesn’t have a mini bar but after a quick call to the reception, I was offered to store my bottles of water in their fridge or I could have an ice bucket. (No extra charge)
Food: We were offered two places to dine within the hotel, we decided on the Riverside Restaurant as the menu sounded great. We booked our table for 7pm and were asked to take a sit in the lounge, where your order is taken. The food was well presented and mouth- watering, I personally feel that £27.50 for a three course meal here was value for money. The menu does have Supplements as well but this is clearly marked on the menu before ordering. The service provided by the restaurant team was second to none especially Charlene. The only downside was that we could hear the chefs in the kitchen as our table was nearly the entrance. (This did not spoil our evening tho)
Leisure Club: We only used the Swimming Pool during our stay, which is clean and very relaxing. The only thing I didn’t like was the reception area; it didnt feel welcoming and i like to chill out in a leisure club but their is no comfortable sofa's or any healthy food/drinks to choose from. I.E smoothies/ Fruit Juice or Salads.
Upon check out I was shocked to hear a customer complaining about the noise of the river, but that what you get when you book a room looking over a fast flowing river! At the end of the day it’s not the hotels fault the river makes a noise, you do have a choice which room you want and I found the sound of the river to be very relaxing.
Overall this hotel is a hidden little gem in the Lakes and has excellent staff, that are a credit to the company. I’ve been to the lakes a few times and always stayed in another hotel nearby but I will be choosing this hotel in future.
