“A little dissapointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

visited on a rainy morning with an 2 under nines. Be warned , you cant get a family ticket with your clubcard vouchers , instead you have to pay separately which adds £9 to the price. In addition car parking will cost you well over £3. The kids enjoyed the aquarium but I wish it was based more around the species native to the lakes and the lakes themselves , just a few small poorly conditioned pike , a few char and brown trout. Was an ok 45 minutes but better ways to spend £30

“Not much there”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

My wife and I decided to take the cruise trip to Newby Bridge down Lake Windermere from Bowness so decided to go for the Cruise + Aquarium package as it worked out cheaper than paying for them separately at £16.45 return each. There is a steam train that leaves from Newby Bridge to Haverthwaite which we weren't too bothered about. The cruise took about 45mins to get to Newby bridge and I must say the cruise was great, you could have refreshments on board which was great too but on arrival to Newby Bridge what a disappointment, there was nothing there apart from the aquarium and the platform to get on the train, you have to do one or the other to pass the hour on before the next boat comes around!! As we had the aquarium tickets included in the price that's where we went. It isn't just an aquarium there is also insects/and animals too but the place is so small that everything seems really packed in and the enclosures are tiny..It probably took us around 40mins to get round .We got there by boat at 12.40 and we were back on the boat heading back to Bowness at 13.40. Seeing everything on offer with the price being £33 between us we thought it was quite steep.. I personally think you would be better hiring a little powered boat and going out by yourself at £23 for an hour instead which you can hire from the promenade at Bowness. Or take the cruise up Windermere to Ambleside at least there are shops there and it's not a bad walk round. Grasmere isn't too far from Ambleside either, It maybe too far to walk but try and make a visit there as this is where William Wordsworths grave is with the graveyard being at the side of Grasmere Gingerbread shop which does the best gingerbread we have ever tasted..Supposed to be world renowned but must admit we have never heard of it. Try for yourself though.

“Looking for Nemo.....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

An excellent attraction for all the family. The children enjoyed the quiz and both got medals. The quiz helped them to find out about the animals and interact with the attraction. Highlights were the virtual diving bell with interactive screens (particularly enjoyed by our 8 year daughter, but also by her grandparents), the underwater tunnel with the diving ducks which was clean and clear to see the animals (enjoyed by my wife) and the rockpools which were well explained by a member of staff and thoroughly enjoyed by both children. Definitely well worth a visit if in the area!

“Something to do”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013 via mobile

We recently visited the lakes aquarium with our 1 year old and 5 year old.
Enjoyed the walk round the aquarium but its not something which could entertain for more than a couple of hours...
Price for admission is quite a lot for what there is but we all enjoyed it..
Information on each area is very informative.
You can return on the day to go around again..
