“Quality Family Break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

This was the 4th or 5th time at the Lakeside and still find it hard to fault. Family room was great, pool area smashing and the setting is truly fantastic with perhaps the best breakfast ever! The only comment I would make is the preference for nouvelle cuisine portions at dinner - after a hard day of walking the fells, a more substantial portion option for dinner would have kept my three teenage boys from devouring all of our snacks for walking in one night!!

Room Tip: Hard to beat a lake view as it changes by the minute.

Having travelled America in the previous months to having the pleasure of staying at this hotel I can safely say NOTHING beats the location, setting or the view! Idyllic, picturesque and peaceful.

Check in was quick yet professional, with staff even taking the time to offer a full show round of the hotels extensive high quality facilities; which includes a stunning restaurant with extensive menu offering (food is amazing) pool, steam room, sauna and spa, nearly all rooms overlook the lake, and my room in particular had a Jacuzzi bath! Not to mention a pianist in the evening and an adjacent conservatory to soak up those amazing views. A unique and unforgettable gem, a great stay, will defiantly be back.

Stayed here over weekend for anniversary and i agree with previous reviewer relating to the age group that they cater for, but everything else about the hotel is 1st class especially the view
We visited the spa which was great and as its only for guests it was very quiet and relaxing

We have just spent a couple of nights here and would agree with previous reviews that the service is excellent and views are some of the best you will get of Windermere. I thought it would be worth adding a couple of observations for future travellers.
The majority of the guests at the hotel were of advanced years and the hotel is geared for them.Decor and general ambience is traditional and sedate.
The hotel has a superb conservatory which overlooks the Lake. Although pleasant to sit in it is so quiet we found ourselves unavoidably eavesdropping on other guests conversations and being guarded with our own volume to a point where we felt we were sitting in a Doctors waiting room. A little background music would remedy this.
On a more positive note the food was first class apart from the cheap coffee supplied in the rooms and the pool area modern and a welcome facility on a typical Lake District rainy day.

I've just returned from a night's stay at the hotel - it's gorgeous! The chandeliers in reception are worth a mention of their own...
Staff were friendly and attentive - the chap who helped me to my room gave me a whistle stop tour of the ground floor, which is quite stunning.
I was in the country house wing, in the red room, with a four poster bed and antique furnishings, a huge marble bathroom and a view of the woods. It was very peaceful - perfect after my long car journey. The spa and pool looked fabulous although I didn't try them. The food was delicious.
This really is a fantastic place that needs to be seen - Victoriana meets the 21st century in a fabulous combination :) A real treat of a place to stay!

Room Tip: The country house rooms are away from it all if you're after peace and quiet.

Have just had an overnight stay at this lovely hotel, although listed as a 4* I felt as if it was a 5*. The staff are all very helpful & friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The decor is a mix of contemporary and Victorian which works really well, situated on the shores of Lake Windermere the views from the conservatory & lake view rooms are stunning. All in all a very pleasant stay!

The staff very polite and the rooms excellent...
The food in the evening fine dining and breakfast was a great selection.the view and the lakes and the flowers were great to view...ideal location near the steam train station...the spa was clean hot and a great place after a buzzy day...over all I can't wait to attend the hotel again...
