“Nice Location But Showing its Age”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012 via mobile

We booked a weekend break (having stayed a few times in the past). The hotel is certainly showing its age, the conservatory seating would unfortunately look better in an old folks home and the bedrooms could definitely do with a spruce up.

The service was still quite nice but it should be at £160 to £180 per night for a lake view room. The restaurant meal was very nice and well presented with a good choice. The Lakeview is obviously starting to feel the pinch, since time was that they expected you to dress smartly for dinner and now you apparently can turn up in track suits.

It is a shame, since the price tag of this hotel used to match the quality afforded to it, now however the quality has lowered while the price hasn't.

Nice hotel, but unfortunately a little too average for the price being asked..

The hotel and spa is located on the banks of windermere lake in a fantastic location, with good connections to main road. The rooms are simply fantastic. The food is gorgeous , swimming pool and spa are great. The gym equipement is however outdated. The lounge and staff are friendly. The rooms are clean and the service is next to none

Room Tip: suites are quite roomy, internet connection in the room and lounge is not that good

A very professionally managed and run hotel with helpful and conscientious staff. Good ambience, excellent catering and a perfect escape from the weather on a cold, dark and wet autumn evening. Wonderful views of Lake Windermere the next morning with autumn leaf colours reflected in the water. Early fog and mist lifted to give a beautiful day for exploring and seeing the wider Lake District. A great hotel at any time of the year!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main hotel building with a lake view if possible; some accommodation is in spe...

Our second visit to the Lakeside found it even better than the first time. Effortless check in, nice room and as usual the pool was lovely. On a weekend stay we dined in the brasserie on both evenings - the food was excellent. Breakfast was a cracker each morning, and after a walk up the west side of the lake to the Hawkshead ferry, coffee for two in the conservatory when returning by steamer from Bowness was a lovely way to relax. This hotel has a very nice selection of wines, but "ouch"....you'll pay for it!
Staff helpful without being over attentive, it was a really enjoyable stay.

Pool small, not much choice for evening/lunch for vegetarians for a 4 star rating. Web site mentioned bring your own towels for the spa area, but we're given towels, no robes though. Slippers extra £1, recommend you go to the Garlic farm for lunches.

Room Tip: Lake view room recommended, very picturesque when you draw the curtains open.

Stayed at this hotel on the 2nd Nov. Paid £189 for B&B in one of their Premier double rooms.
The staff were very friendly, helpful, quickly parking the car, checking us in and showing us around.

The room was a little disappointing considering the price, overlooking the car park and unfortunately having one of the softest beds I have slept in for a long time, or more accurately was unable to sleep in. Not sure if it was just old or was intended to be soft, I suspect just old!!

The evening meal was excellent although £21 for Fish and chips was excessive and your choices are limited without driving for miles.

The Spa was overrun by small children. I counted 15 children and only 3 adults in the pool and the other adults/parents sitting in the pool reception area not in swim wear. Unfortunately the children were not limited to the pool, they were also in the steam room. Not ideal if you are looking for an adult get away. But I guess I should have known better staying during half term.

Overall, a nice hotel, not ideal during half term and the food the accommodation are a little expensive considering what is being offered.

Excellent welcome and a lovely hotel. The pool facilities were first class and the setting is fantastic. The room was extremely comfortable and our daughter loved the lights around the mirror in the bathroom and the robes we went down to the pool in. The staff were very friendly and the food in the evening was lovely. The reason that we didn't rate at 5 * is the selection of TV channels in the room (no Sky Sports) and the service at breakfast which was poor. We waited 25 minutes for our hot selection and when it arrived it was average at best. On the whole though we would recommend.

Room Tip: Try and get a lakeside view!
