“Picturesque location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

We arrived here straight after doing the Via Ferrata at Honister, in the very heavy rain. So it was so nice to be welcomed into a traditional farmhouse with the log-burner roaring away in the sitting room!

Our room (Catbells) was very nice, as was the en-suite (huge bath). The annex of the room might perhaps house the boiler? Or something for the central heating? Anyway, whatever it was, it was noisy, but it stopped arounf 10pm and didn't start again until just after 8am, so would only be a problem if you wanted an early night and a lie-in!

The breakfast was lovely, very fresh eggs and bacon to die for. The breakfast was served at perhaps a 'leisurely pace', so if you wanted to be up and out quickly, you might want to mention this beforehand.

For us, we were in no rush so was nice to sit and chat to the fellow occupants to hear tales of their travels etc.

We also got to see the litter of 1-week-old piglets in the barn next to the farmhouse, along with the belted galoway cattle.

My partner and i had wished to visit the lake district for years and finally we done it! After researching accommodation we found ashnessfarm. On arrival we were overwhelmed by the farm particularly the stunning and picturesque location but above all the wonderful and warm welcome we received from Anne and family. We could not have wished for more during our stay from the room to the lovely breakfast we were never disappointed. We would recommend staying here to anyone and know that we will be returning.........Katie and Paul

You need to park carefully in the yard next to this lovely whitewash farmhouse lest you run down the hens ranging freely over the stones. These lay for your breakfast, the eggs shells assiduously dated in pencil to ensure their freshness. This is characteristic of our hostess,Anne, whose eye for detail and thoughtful organisation ensure your stay is wonderfully comfortable.Should you forget to pack your toothbrush or comb, there is a basket of them ona window ledge int eh corridor witha polite request to make a donation in the box provided for Mountain Resue. Should you prefer herb tea to the conventional, coffee or hot chocolate provided one ach room with kettle and crockery, there is variety in the spacious and cosy living room downstairs.
The farm stands above Ashness wood on the open fell with commanding views across to Derwent Water and the North Western Fells Beyond. You need a few days here to plumb the delicious depths of the silences into which you wake in the morning.Listen carefully and you may may hear a dog bark,a cock crow,a lamb bleat for its mother.or you may hear nothing but the gentle sowing of the wind,or ona still day, nothing at all.
The Farm works for its keep. There are sheep browsing the field below the old stone wall, and somewhere else pigs. These are picturesque but don't get too sentimental, they are destined for sausages and chops.
The rooms are cosy and spotlessly clean. Our bathroom and an a sarcophagus size tub and huge shower head.there was constant hot water. Our beds were firm and after a day's walking and a good supper had that magical effect of instant sleep.
Ashness Fram is ideally suited for all the major Fells around here.it is across tha valley from Catsbells,Maiden Moor and Dale Head.Ten minutes drive away are the thrills of Blencathra and the majestic heights of Skiddaw and it's attendant peaks.
This is the ideal place for those who prefer peace, quiet, wonderful views, warm hospitality and mags nificent breakfast. But if you prefer noise, bustle, beer swilling rowdies and traffic ,stay in Keswick.

Our 2nd visit to Ashness Farm was fantastic. Again! A wonderful spot with beautiful views of Derwentwsater and Grizedale Pike from our bed. The room was immaculate and you certainly need to do some walking after one of Anne's excellent breakfasts. We will certainly be going back.

Room Tip: Grizedale is the smallest, but still adequate for a couple or single traveller.

Our latest trip to Ashness at the beginning of april was as the other ones. Excellent. The room was superbly kept and looks great with the original beams and the traditional narrow barn window looking out over the farm and derwentwater/Keswick. Anne and her family are loveley and they are always happy to offer advice/chat about the locality. Her breakfasts are superb. absolutely everything you could wish for, Hearty or healthy! Breakfast time is a great way to chat to other guests and on this ocasion we got chatting to a lovely couple from washington America! overall EXCELLENT!

Room Tip: Catbells for couples or armboth for a small family. but they are all gorgeous!

Stunning location, interesting animals, central position to visit local area, very good breakfast. Nice room. However, room was a little damp, sheets felt a bit damp on the bed! Walls were paper thin - you could hear a conversation next door with ease. The lounge downstairs smelled a bit catty. Overall, it did the job, but I wouldn't particularly want to stay here again. A bit puzzled by all the other glowing reviews.

We stay several times a year in varius B&Bs dotted all over The Lake District and are rarely dissapointed. Ashness Farm was no exception.Friendly welcome from Anne and her delightful boys, a fresh comfortable room with stunning views (despite the heavy rain) a wonderful Cumbrian breakfast and comfortable visitors lounge with beautiful log stove. Ann has an eye for detail and provides lots of little extras that other B&Bs sometimes over look.
