Gill and David were great, from the attention to detail they place in every part of their lovely home, to how they looked after us while we were there. Lovely home cooked food with great local produce - a lovely part of the lake district away from the general bustle. Beautiful walks and some great gastro-pubs in this área. Skiddow is at a good distance and Buttermere is beautiful. If you are fortunate to stay here, enjoy every momento, just as we did.

Room Tip: The Green room has the largest bed, the Plum room has a separate bathroom with a bath tub.

Adriana, it was a real pleasure having you here. Thank you so much for writing such a lovely review but perhaps more importantly, we were delighted that you both felt able to relax and unwind and just enjoy this beautiful part of the Northern Lakes. This area of the Lake District seems to be overlooked by so many, which is possibly what makes it so special for those who do manage to spend some time here........ With our very best wishes for the future.

We had a really lovely 3 night stay at Boltongate with Gill and David over the May bank holiday. The house is lovely, rooms are really spacious, light and airy and the location is great particularly for anyone who wants to be near the action in the Lakes but slightly out of the hurly burly (it is about 15-20 minutes drive to Keswick from the house). But most of all, in addition to all the details that abound in the house, David and Gill are genuinely warm and attentive hosts and the standard is truly excellent: delicious food (dinner as well as breakfast) interesting but well-priced wine list, tea even though we came back from our hike "after hours" and a little box of chocolates to send us on our way....."B&B" doesn't really do this justice.

Thank you so much for taking time to write such a lovely review. It was great to have you here for three nights as that gave you two days to properly explore this quieter area of the Lake District and to appreciate how beautiful it is - especially in the sunshine!
We are also delighted that you enjoyed dining with us on Friday and Saturday evening and appreciated being able to return after a long day to enjoy some interesting wine, good local produce and a good chat with other guests over dinner - to us that is what a great holiday is all about.
We hope to see you again at Boltongate Old Rectory in the not too distant future.
Kind regards, Gill & David

Simply one of the best places to stay in an unspoilt area of the lakeland fringe. Hosts could not have been more helpful and welcoming. Food perfect, spotless and fresh and a building you would just love to own.

We recently spent a weekend at the Bolton Gate rectory to celebrate my mother and sisters birthdays. It was the perfect choice for us - gorgeous old house, beautifully decorated and maintained. The bedrooms were really lovely and extremely comfortable with huge beds and comfortable mattresses. The owners have paid enormous attention to detail and should you have forgotten anything it's sure to be there. There is a comfortable lounge downstairs with a wood burning stove where we enjoyed some rather large gin and tonic's and champagne. Dinner is served in the candle lit dining room and its truly fantastic. Gill ( the chef) is a foodie and a great believer in healthy eating - she manages to combine her talents with good produce to create some amazing dishes. Her cheese soufflé and lemon brûlée were worthy of Michelin stars!!! The wine list is also fantastic and the mark up on wines very low - this is a place where you feel you get real value for money, luxury and quality at a reasonable price. Gill and David obviously enjoy entertaining and there are several extras at no additional cost including after dinner truffles, afternoon tea and freshly made scones, muffins or cake. I don't want to spoil the surprise but you even get a little leaving gift. Most things are cooked on the premises however anything that's not is meticulously sourced including the jams which we enjoyed on Gills home made bread which she makes with local flour ( simply gorgeous). This is a rare gem and I can't recommend it highly enough!!!

Firstly I must apologise for taking so long to respond. I remember sending you a thank you email but then I completely forgot to thank you in this way. Sorry!
Thank you so much for your wonderfully detailed review of Boltongate Old Rectory. As I have commented in previous responses, our home really does seem to make a perfect venue for families or groups of friends who want to catch up in the knowledge that the communal rooms don't have to be shared with other guests, allowing you to do what you like at a time that suits you.
We love it when all three of our rooms are booked to one party as it always seems to involve a special occasion and we feel that's it's a real honour to be chosen for such special events. Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for battling through the snow to get to us on one of the snowiest weekends that we've experienced in over ten years! We are delighted that it was worth it!!
We really hope that we will see you all again when you have another family get together.
Kind regards
Gill & David

It was my 50th Birthday yesterday and my closest friends and dearest family had a wonderful lunch at the Rectory. While not something they normally do ( that is providing lunch parties) David, Gill and not forgetting Betty provided excellent hospitality and the most delicious meal in relaxing beautiful surroundings.... I cannot recommend the place enough. While we did not stay the night we were kindly shown the rooms and they too looked scrummy reflecting the experience we had. I have stayed and visited some really nice places and this definitely ranks...

Thank you so much for writing such a wonderful review. As you rightly say this was a first for us in that, despite offering dinner to guests who are staying with us for nearly ten years now, we have never offered lunch before so it's really encouraging to us to have such positive feedback.

We must also thank you for being so considerate to our resident guests, ensuring that you arrived and departed within the hours of 12.30 and 4pm thus allowing us to take proper care of our departing and newly arriving guests - thank you.

When one of you has another special Birthday to celebrate it would be lovely to see you all again!

With our very best wishes

Gill and David

Our stay at Boltongate in May was faultless. The house is beautifully finished with excellent attention to every detail, it has a wonderful relaxing atmosphere our bedroom was lovely with an exceptionally comfortable bed. Gill and David are wonderful hosts who made us feel so welcome. The food is the best we have had anywhere in the world, if it was a restaurant Gill would have at least one Michellin star. We like it so much we have already booked to return in Sepember - We can recommend it without hesitation.

Wow what an amazing review! We are starting to wonder if it's really about us! We are really glad that you thought so highly of the food. We use a lot of local artisan food producers and try to let the ingredients speak for themselves so feel that we have to share any credit with our suppliers for making such wonderful produce.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with Trip Advisor - we really appreciate it and look forward to seeing you again in September.
Kind regards

What a wonderful afternoon we had today. I gather lunches are not the norm at the Old Rectory and this was a one-off - but how wonderful it was. The location, building, ambiance and hosts were all incredible; relaxing and welcoming just doesn't sum it up. The food, on the other hand, was beyond words - "beautiful" "exemplary" and "delicious" will have to do,but they don't do the quality, quantity and presentation justice. I will definitely be coming back. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your kind words. David Betty and I really enjoyed having you at Boltongate Old Rectory for lunch as you were all such appreciative diners! We will try and organise some sunshine for your next visit so that we can serve the canapés and fizz outside......
