Stopped here for breakfast as we travelled down the A6 to Morecambe this morning having recently learned that they are now using Atkinsons Coffee. The Cafe belies it's position in a Garden Centre and offers a contemporary space for breakfast, lunch, cake and drinks.
Whilst it was nice and quiet upon our arrival I can understand why other reviewers have bemoaned the counter service system as I can envisage a lengthy queue at peak times, particularly for coffee.
At the counter the first thing I noticed was an on demand Mazzer grinder and a San Remo espresso machine - unfortunately in this instance it was a case of 'all the gear - no idea'. I ordered a flat white, but like so many café's the grinds weren't tamped correctly and the milk was reheated, scalded (cue the noise that makes my toes curl) and slopped in to a cup...what a way to treat artisan roasted beans, such a shame. Interestingly however as I ate my breakfast I did notice a few of the YOUNGER staff take a lot more care in their preparation of drinks, so we may have just been unlucky. Funnily enough they also seemed to be persistently usurped as designated 'barista' by the elder lady with no idea (not being ageist I promise, just an observation). If I return I'll try the coffee again so long as someone else is making.
Thankfully a lovely breakfast made up for the lack of caffeine. Wonderful local produce with every element cooked to perfection and not even a hint of greasiness. This was also particularly good value for money and the service was incredibly quick indeed.
