“Fathers 70th Birthday”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2011

We celebrated our fathers birthday at the local Indian Curry House. We had a pleasant evening at this restaurant, but sadly the experience was nothing special. Perhaps we have been spoilt at other venues. The service could be improved, for example clearing our table of plates used for the starters. There was no space for the main courses, so our main course plates were stacked on top of the starter plates. The restaurant was not busy and the waiter kept disappearing for long periods of time, so we were left waiting for fresh drinks. The food was tasty, but not very spicy (I had a chicken Jalfreizy (hot spicy on menu)) and the portions were limited.I had a tandoori chicken starter which was exceptionally small, and terrible value for money.

Overall Satisfactory, but lagging behind their competitors.

“bustling little local Indian restaurant, with hot tasty food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2011

Lovely warm welcome from the hostess as we entered the restaurant, big smile and shown to the table quickly, my partner had booked the table a day before which was just as well as it was a busy Saturday night, after ordering a couple of beers we waited approx 15mins for two main courses which was super because we were starving!! Served up....a vegetarian byriani and a lamb jalfrezi, a plain naan and a keema naan ... could of had a bit more filling ...other than that main meals went down very well indeed, nice and hot with loads of flavour, bill came to about £40 but they have a happy deal time 5-7 which we just missed...we will be back ..

“Regular here..but could still be better!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2011

The Saffron is certainly in the top 2 Indian restaurants in Widnes..of 2 I would ever actually visit that is, the other being the Desii.

The Saffron is a very well kept, clean restaurant. Although the accoutrements to the decor the owners Brenda and Ernie have added may not be everyones taste it is obvious they spend alot of money maintaining the place.
The staff are workmanlike and are a bit erratic in their attitude from one visit to the next (sometimes only a week!) The young Scouse lad in particular could do with learning some customer etiquette and would do well to watch his language when talking to other members of staff when guests are within earshot.

The food is consistently good and portions are good when sitting in. However I have felt for several years that the amount of meat in take away portions is not good. I once got a Chicken Tikka and only got 4 small chicken cubes. This is a small gripe however and overall I can highly recommend the Saffron.
