“Excellent Hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013 via mobile

Stayed at the castle for one night with my partner and we were blown away, the grounds are beautiful with birds of prey out to look at as well! We were made to feel welcome from the word go by the staff. The room was beautiful and we were glad to pay the bit extra for an executive room! We didn't eat at the castle in the evening as there was a few larger parties but we did have a quick snack and drink in the bar which had a nice atmosphere, with friendly staff who were very attentive. We had a great nights sleep and huge bath with robes was an added bonus! The breakfast was busy but did not disappoint. There is a wide variety of food on the buffet hot and cold all good quality from what we had. The service was again excellent and even though the restaurant was busy we were looked after very well. All in all a gorgeous hotel with fabulous features can't wait to come back!

I was not an overnight guest at the castle due to no rooms being available, but spent all day and evening here to celebrate a friends wedding.

Upon arrival the castle is breathtaking, and extremely picturesque, romantic, grand, and glamourous all in one.

The staff were very helpful, particularly when you need a taxi. There are no local taxi firms, and so you need to book ahead and place a £10 deposit behind reception. It was a little annoying at first, however the staff are clearly doing the best they can to make sure you are not totally abandoned wih no transport...which happened to a few other guests who hadnt enquired! :(

There are plenty of rooms and cooridors for you to explore whilst you have to wait around after a weddig ceremony. Another really nice feature was a large seating area near to the bar area which meant you werent awkwardly standing around waiting for the wedding breakfast, which has been common in most wedding venues I've been before.

The grand hall was impressive and really had the wow factor. Muh like the rest of the castle. I did go into some friends rooms whist we were there and they were just as lovely as the rest of the castle. If it wasnt so expensive I would love to go for a log weekend myself! :)

Went to a party in the hexagon suite, enjoyable evening, buffet ok, surroundings very good. We did not stay overnight though there were rooms available.
This hotel is in a superb location as long as you don't mind driving to the middle of nowhere to get there. Impressive entrance and barrier control on the driveway, very long drive, in the daylight you come upon the castle among the trees, I have visited this a few times over the years before it was a hotel and it had the remnants of the village from the filming of Robin Hood. The car park is a bit of a disappointment, fortunately it was not raining. On entering the castle and hotel you cannot fail to be impressed, very grand and very helpful staff in reception to give directions to the banqueting suites. En route a visit to the loo's, my wife advised me that the ladies were 'lovely' in my case the gents were the gents, no bin and tissues left all over the place but I have seen worse. Not large for the number of people about.
The hexagon room was ok in size for the party we were at, the bar being disappointing, the price of drinks were over the top and there was no draft bitter, though the barman bless him, kept dashing off to get them for us, bar takings were probably down due to the prices. All the staff were very polite and obliging.
I would have liked a look round the hotel, but did not like to wander round. The buffet was a little different to my thoughts of a finger buffet but was very good.
Over all an enjoyable evening, also a wedding on and in true hotel style never the twain shall meet and we didn't except in the loo's.
Well done Peckforton Castle

Attended a relatives wedding here and was blown away from the minute we arrived, the grounds surrounding the castle and the birds of prey are amazing to look at. The decor is a mix of traditional and modern but they mix really well. The food was fantastic, the staff very attentive and the drinks were reasonably priced, overall a very enjoyable day

we booked a three night stay at the hotel. Arrived early but luckily our room was ready early as normally not ready until 3pm which is quite late. our room was at the top of a spiral staircase which added to the castle feel of the hotel so was a bit of a trek but they did offer to move us to another room. Room was really nice and up to the standard expected of this sort of room cost. Evening Meals were of a good standard as was breakfast. The set menu was very limited with choice being the same Every night .there is no bar open at night and you can only order drinks during your meal. We had to pay for my child's meals separately .the location is good and the actual build is stunning and a good experience to stay at.

The main thing that lets this hotel down is its staff .from arrival at reception to meals in the evening we found unhelpful and quite rude. the feel from the staff was that Their was absolutely no moral at all. As if they couldn't care less if you stayed they which was quite surprising given the beautiful surrounding they have the pleasure In working in. Another thing that spoilt the ambience was finding things stored round corners and behind chairs.ie you had a beautiful staircase with builders towers stored in. look out of ground floor window lovely trees and a skip ? spa was fully booked the whole stay ? the plumbing system gurgles through the night and the put up bed for my son was broke . I think this is a staff problem that is not being filtered through to the management or because of the beauty of the building they think they don't have to make an effort. There was only one staff that was very helpful and polite that worked in the brassiere in the daytime I wished I had her name .in total the stay cost just under £1000 for 3 nights.

Room Tip: Broxton is where we stayed was at the top of a spiral staircase 61 steps to be precise, but we away...

Thank you for taking the time to post a reveiw and for your constructive feedback. We do have the Brasserie bar which is open every day from 9am - 11pm or later for residents. I believe that you were advised to pay for the child's meals sepearately as this represented better value than a dinner, bed & breakfast rate for the child. Your comment reagrding the staff is most upsetting and my apologies for any disappointment caused in this respect. We do invest much time in training and mentoring the team and usually feedback is most positive. I will of course be sharing your comments with them and discussing what went wrong on this occasion. I do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to the castle and would ask that if you are planning to re-visit, that you contact me directly.

The main issue was one of cost. against quality. For 2 slices of bread and one slice of very ordinary beef with a handful of crisps I was charged £6.95. For that amount I would expect at least a small green salad to accompany. Or a third slice of bread. My wife's soup, at £5.50, was badly over-salted [which we discussed with the waitress]and the bread accompaniment came already buttered. Why? Does the chef know her preferences? At most establishments the butter would come as an optional pat.

Capuccinos were £3.50 each and quite ordinary at that. So a bill of £19.45 for a lunch that was of very, very ordinary quality . Chains like Pret and Costa are much better quality for both snack food and coffee, and for much less money. A luxury establishment should be aiming much higher. OK, we are not talking about a King's Ransom here and-hell-I can easily afford £20, but I do expect value. If this is typical and these prices are here to stay then the kitchen has to up its game.

In addition it took 20 minutes after we had finished eating for pre-ordered coffee to arrive. Just not slick enough. At one point, having enquired about the status of the order, we were asked if we were in a hurry!

We didn't stay at the hotel, but we did have lunch at 2010 Brasserie.

Staff incredibly attentive.

Food tasty - reasonably priced.

Beautiful setting, great to see the Birds (albeit tethered). The brasserie is in the old scullery, so plenty of features to enjoy.

Thanks for a lovely afternoon - see you in May for an overnight stay.
