“Nice break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2014

Stayed here on a groupon deal. And for the price paid was very good. Dinner was from a set menu but this was fine. We had a lovely evening in the restaurant with a live singer who was exceptional. Breakfast was buffet and everything you would expect was there including a nice selection of prepared fresh fruits. Room basic but clean and ample space. There was a wedding at the hotel but we never felt squeezed out. We were worried it would be noisy late into the night but this never happened. In fact our floor, second, was the quietest hotel floor I've stayed at! For the money we paid certainly would recommend.

Stayed for 2nights to attend our daughters wedding. All aspects of the celebration were perfectly organised efficiently and every thing went smoothly.
Very pleased with the whole event. Well Done to everyone at the Wild Boar.
A special thank you to the dining room staff at breakfast for being so attentive to everyone, especially our Grandchildren. Thank You

Found the hotel and staff to be welcoming and friendly.
Rooms were spacious and clean , nice views absolutely no problems with facilities.
Evening meal and breakfast were excellent , we have no problems recommending this hotel

The first impressions of the hotel are great in that it is a very old quirky building that from afar looks lovely however close up you can see that it is in need of repair.
We stayed in room 37 - there are no lifts so we had to carry the bags up 2 flights of stairs and were offered no assistance. The room was large with lovely views over the countryside however the carpet was rather dirty. The bathroom was dated although clean however had some wires exposed by the radiators. The shower was atrocious with hardly any water pressure therefore it took a long time to be able to wash my hair!!
We ate in the restaurant from the set menu as we were on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. We were seated and advised they had run out of menus so had to go find some - then they could only provide one so we had to share. We ordered some wine and this took a long time to come - I had to chase it once our starters had arrived otherwise we had no drink. We ordered soup - this was lovely and then I had pasta and my partner had pork - both were nice. Dessert was also lovely. There was a mix up with the bill when it came to paying as I paid cash for the wine and was then asked to sign a receipt which would have charged the wine, I had already paid for, to the room!!
The hotel was rather cold and drafty so we went to bed early to get warm and this was the biggest disappointment - the mattress was old and had spring poking into your back and this resulted in a very painful nights sleep - it wouldnt cost much to replace mattresses.
Breakfast the next morning was OK - it was a buffet service and we have had much better. There were no eggs so we had to ask for these, the orange juice was warm however the waitress was very friendly and chatty. With some updating, attention to detail, investing in more menu's and some training to some of the service staff this could be a lovely hotel. Dont think we will return with it in its current form.

Room Tip: Avoid room 37 as the mattress on the double bed is horrible

We stayed last night at The Wlld Boar staying in two four poster bed rooms and had no complaints at all.
Both rooms were spotlessly clean.
Some public areas showing sign of wear but it adds to the character.
We dined there in the evening and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. We were on the Dinner Bed and breakfast package which included a set menu but a generous allowance was given if you wanted to order off the A la carte menu.

Breakfast was hot and plentiful too!

All the staff we met were very friendly and very helpful.

Wouid I stay here again yes I would

Room Tip: We had room nine and 1886 suite

Recently attended a wedding here, so no accommodation review.I arrived with 10 min to spare due to farm traffic on the A49.Headed for reception expecting a member of staff to greet /guide me, no, not even a sign to point me in the right direction. Used the ladies, loo not flushing and torn wallpaper didnt give good impression. Not knowing anyone other than the bride I hovered in a bar area where some other wedding looking guests where.I then heard someone say we have been summoned upstairs, so I followed on hopefully.Up 2 flights of steep stairs to a lovely room, although a little shabby round the edges.Generally the place could do with some tlc, from the outside I expected something wow, the room where we waited for the reception was very nice! We enjoyed a 3 course meal, very spicy soup, lovely main and the most delicious profiteroles I've ever had! Bit tight on the wine, 1 glass poured, several guests not drinking it and many no shows, why was it not left on the table and why weren't we offered seconds of food??.And as future reference, please could hotel staff make more effort to guide lost guests!
