“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

We have just enjoyed 3 lovely nights at this excellent hotel in Cheshire. All staff friendly and hardworking, from initial check in to leaving. After first mornings breakfast, we were invited by one of owners to look at the Penthouse Suite (soon to be renamed), a beautiful rooms where the wedding ceremonies take place. The rooms are clean and comfortable, lovely fresh towels and toiletries each day. There was always plenty of really hot water for a shower or bath. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts, a very good range on offer and everything filled up quickly as it ran low. I cannot praise this hotel enough and really cant understand the people who have left negative feedback. If you want The Savoy or Claridges, pay their prices, but I doubt you would get a better service.

My friend and I had afternoon tea here, as it was a special occasion we chose the champagne afternoon tea.

The food was freshly prepared, home made and very tasty served in a lovey
lounge.

The Wild Boar is in a beautiful location and we received great service.

Well worth a visit.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights having seen the hotel advertised on Travelzoo and we wanted to visit Chester. The front of the hotel is stunning to look at and presents a great backdrop for weeding which seems to be the core business of the hotel. The hotel is not within walking distance of any places of interest or alternative eating houses so you will have to drive if you want to eat elsewhere. The room was not as clean as it could have been and clearly the hover doesn’t do the edges of the carpet. This was the same in the corridors and stairs and you don’t need a magnifying glass to see this, the carpet was also stained in places which spoiled thing. The bed and bedding was clean. The restaurant was OK but just average, my wife’s potion of salmon was very small and not it the fine dining style as the remainder was more akin to pub grub. The car park to the front had two empty beer cans standing in the centre for two days and this typifies the lack of attention to detail which badly lets this hotel down. We were made to feel that we were only there to fill rooms between weddings and maybe we were, when we checked out we weren’t asked if everything had been OK which suggests indifference. I think this hotel would be good to very good if some attention was given to detail and there was some effective management direction. With effective management and attention to detail this could be a good hotel.

Room Tip: I would suggest this would depend on if there was a wedding happening so ask.

The hotel is in a lovely location. We were given a warm welcome on arrival. The rooms are nice and spacious but I noticed it smelt dusty as soon as we walked in. The skirting boards were thick with dust as was the bed headboard and panels on the doors and furniture. I went to reception to ask for a duster and the receptionist kindly came to the room with some surface wipes and cleaned it. The bathroom was also not very clean. The wipes were black when she had finished cleaning and she said she would show them to the cleaner.
The food in the restaurant was lovely for both evening meals and breakfast and the restaurant and reception staff were most helpful and friendly. If it wasn't for the lack of cleanliness I would have given this hotel a 5 rating.

Stayed here August 2013 on a moneysupermarket two night deal inc. breakfast.

Our room was no 9, on the ground floor at the very end of the corridor, so nice and quiet, with dual aspect windows, looking out onto farmland. The room was clean and spacious with a four poster bed. The staff were polite and friendly. We didn't eat in the brasserie as we felt it was too expensive, so we decided to eat out in nearby Tarporley, which is 5 mins away. Breakfast was fine. Buffet style with hot selection as well as cereal and fruit. There was a wedding reception in the marque during the stay but we didn't hear any noise in our room.

Thank you Wild Boar!

Stayed at the wild boar hotel over the bank holiday weekend the setting is superb with a small fountain at the front and well kept gardens a lovely spot for wedding photographs to be taken.
We didn't have the evening meal but the menu seemed enticing.the rooms are a good size with bath and shower.
The breakfast was of good quality with a full English,
Fruits and cereals.
All the staff members we met were very helpful.I would not hesitate to return again some time in the future.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights on a £99 special deal and got a real bargain. Ground floor room was spacious, very clean and had a lovely view across open countryside. The bed was comfortable and the shower worked perfectly well. The self serve breakfast each morning was excellent. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. We had a very enjoyable 2 days - Beeston Castle 5 minutes drive from the Hotel is worth a visit for great panoramic views and Chester is also a must see. We would certainly stay at the Wild Boar Hotel again.
