“A return after 13 Years !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

We stayed at the Wild Boar to celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary. We had stayed at the hotel the year after we first got married so it was interesting to go back.We stayed in one of the suites which was very nice if showing the odd sign of being knocked about. There hotel bar area & restaurant had changed quite a lot in the years between our first visit, both for the better. The dinner we had on the Saturday night was excellent & the service great also. The drinks in the bar are not cheap but it is to be expected in a country hotel. On the whole the plus points are the food & location & the negatives?.Well the shower was useless & I could spit more water out of my mouth ! & the hotel in places could do with more upgrading.Having said that the place is well worth a visit if you are in that area.

Room Tip: Eat at the hotel the food is great!.

Stayed here for a night before a friends wedding, Check in friendly and efficient, we were fortunate our room was availiable early so we were able to go straight to our room. The room was a good size and comfortable. The reception staff (Kath and Joy) were most helpful, offering and booking us a taxi to a venue we were attending in the evening. There was not anything we could fault about our 1 night stay. Breakfast was buffet style and was plentiful with a good selection.Conveniently located if attending peckforton Castle. Would recommend.

The hotel was tired and run down and very under Staffed and very pricey.

Some of the staff where nice and helpful but some staff were just plain rude.

The breakfast was buffy most of it was dry and burnt.

If you were in the bar you had to wait 5-10 mins to be severed or go and find someone to service, as they were helping in the restaurant not one member off staff apologised for us waiting.

We did eat in the restaurant, we order a bottle of white wine to be told that they had not ice buckets for our wine and the food was over prices for what you go. But the food was nice.

My family when out for the day, when we come back the waitresses that were serving breakfast were cleaning the rooms, we had to wait in the Barr until they had finished and this was 4pm so they had all day to clean it so we were not impressed.

To top it all off when we checked out they tried to overcharge us. One customer was in the bar and heard a Very rude supervisor say a room wanted room service and then said the room number he was staying in. When he said sorry you have the wrong room as we are sitting here, she never apologised for the mix up. just rolled her eye and said to the waitress to go and check what room it was.

I would not go back there if I was give a free stay.

we booked this break for four people from the internet. the offer was two nights for two people bed and breakfast £99. too good to be true. Not so. We stayed March 8th to 10th and it was the best £99 i've ever spent. The hotel appears in all its splendor and inside does not let it down. the staff are all very helpful and obliging and cant do enough to make your stay as pleasant as possible. even to showing you around the older parts of the hotel and printing out a route to the park and ride car park in Chester. the rooms are very spacious and very clean with everything you could wish for. the dining room is also very spacious, spotlessly clean and the food is to die for. we had the evening meal both nights we were there and were not disappointed at all. (everyone must try the chunky chips mmmm ) all in all a thoroughly enjoyable weekend which we will repeat later in the year. thank you Wild Boar and all staff.

Room Tip: we had rooms 25 and 26. both excellent over looking fields.

We have driven past the Wild Boar about once a month for the past ten years and always wondered what it would be like to visit such a visually attractive hotel. As a birthday treat on the 7th March 2013 we booked into the hotel for a night and it was one of the best £65 we have spent. The bedroom was clean and tidy, plenty large enough, warm and inviting with en-suite that worked fine if the water pressure was a little low as itb was a top floor room. The staff were excelent from the moment we booked in, friendly, helpful and extremely proffesional, always looking to improve our enjoyment. The food both for the evening meal and breakfast was of the highest standard both in food quality and price(very reasonable)

Room Tip: Top floor water pressure a little low. Shower worked o.k.

I stayed in a family room here wih two friends as we were all attending a wedding at Peckforton Castle.
The room costs £65 for the night, including breakfast. We left the wedding after the ceremony whilst the bride and groom were getting photos done to quickly check in at 14:30 (the hotel is around half a mile from the castle) the earliest we could do so.

First impressions are that it is a lovely hotel. A little dated, but clean, rich in history and set in fantastic surroundings.

The room itself was fine, nothing spectacular, but for £65 it was fine. The tea and coffee facilities werehidden in a cupboard under the television and were a bit tatty and unclean, we needed to boil up some water and rinse them a few times to get rid of stains on there.

The beds were fine, very comfortable and clean crisp sheets. one thing which was a little unpleasant was during the night my friend went to the toilet and there were little bugs on the floor which I can only describe as mini woodlice wriggling about.

Breakfast again was fine, the usual food on offer with a good amount of cereals, juices, and jams along with the cooked stuff. That was possibly the nest part of the hotel.

One thing you do need to be aware of if you are staying there and travellig to Peckforton Castle is that there are no local taxi firms. It resulted in a £35 fare for a journey which didnt last more than 2mins max. Maybe a designated driver would be best if possible.

Other than that it did the job for one night, and getting some food the morning after.
