“.........and for the money paid.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2011

As an overnight stop this is one place I could reccomend. Rooms are smallish but tidy and presentable although the mattress was real soft.
Food at the bar is very good and the service is something that other establishments should take note of.

........and for the money paid the value is excellent.

We have stayed here a number of times over the years and always found it to be an excellent stop, certainly better than a Motorway Service area. Food is good, but the restaurant can be very busy. Rooms are variable depending on whether you are in the small terrace of "new" rooms added as an annexe or in the main part of the hotel. We'd certainly stay again for the convenience (and the food) as an overnight stop, but wouldn't recommend a longer stay.

We stopped off here to break up our journey. The pub is located about 3 minutes drive from Junction 17 (Sandbach) of the M6 and you would have no idea you were that close to the motorway.
The accommodation is tidy, clean and fine for an overnight stay, although the bed was a bit springy. There are tea/coffee facilities in the room, good quality sheets and towels, a flat screen TV with free view. There is an annexe for about 6 rooms (where we stayed) or a modern extension where there are many more rooms.
The non refundable cost is £39.95 for B&B for 2 people which is fantastic value - breakfast is continental with plenty of choice. The dinner in the pub itself was very good value with a good choice of both food and drink. Staff are young, enthusiastic and friendly.
This is an excellent place to stay and with the historic market town of Sandbach some 5 minutes away, its a real gem.

We attended a family gathering in Winterley, 6 miles from The Bears Head, and checked in at about 5pm on a warm Saturday afternoon. On arrival the hotel looks charming and is situated in a lovely village/rural location. The kids found a play park nearby with swings, slide etc.. which was spotlessly clean.
Our stay was a brief one and a bit hazy (heavy night!) so i'll sum up the hotel in a few words.
Rooms - compact if you've got a family of four. Only one pillow per bed which was not ideal (had to double mine over). Can get very warm, old style windows open out slightly. Despite certain reviews, no problem with noise, just a few vehicles pn the nearby road. Fantastic power shower. Nice big tv's in room with freeview channels.
Breakfast, a basic continental offering with enough to start your day (or tackle a hangover.)
Pub itself looked inviting but never had a chance to go in and have a drink. Menus looked ok. Would be a fantastic place to enjoy an outside drink on a summer's evening.
All in all good value for £50 - if you want something cheaper there are always bargain but very basic travelodges aren't there?

My husband and I stayed here for one night as a stop-off on the way to a wedding. The room was a good size and looked nice. We could only get a twin room - the mattress on my bed was comfortable, the mattress on my husband's bed was awful. The pillows were all really hard.

But the main problem was the noise. It sounded like there was something wrong with the plumbing - all night long there was either loud noises or extremely loud noises, presumably whenever someone turned a tap on or flushed the toilet. It was so loud I couldn't sleep but fortunately remembered I had some ear plugs. It sounded like there was a washing machine on spin in our room!

We had arrived late and left fairly early to get to the wedding, so didn't speak to the staff about it. But it can't have been a one-off problem - they need to sort it out, for £50 a night I would expect much better.

Historic pub with associated olde world feel to it and warm ambiance. Newer motel block is good but the rooms within the hotel extension are now in need of renovation and are quite small. Staff are helpful and friendly. Decent location and still provides value for money, with good continental breakfast included in price.

Booked via Innkeeperslodge website for an overnight stay on business.

I had a room at the front in the main building over the restaurant and bar. Room was clean tidy and nicely presented.

Continental breakfast was fine. I did not eat in the inn during the eveing due to late checkin.

There is a main road nearby but this was ok as it was not busy since the M6 a few miles away had taken away most of the traffic. So no lorries pasing through.

I would recommend this inn and stay again.
