“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

Very pretty outside, unexciting inside. The hotel boasts of their restaurant, however i found the food bland, definitely not fresh, and it tried to be something it clearly couldn't reach.
The staff were friendly and very helpful, but i did find some blood spots in my sheets as i climbed into bed after an unimpressive dinner....not pleased. The night manager offered us a glass of wine and profusely apologised, however i would have expected something off the bill.
All together, not impressive.

Our daughter and son in law organised a two night stay here for my birthday, and it was a wonderful gift, the staff were friendly, helpful and professional, we had a lovely room overlooking the grounds it was in the original house, the bed was huge and so comfortable the best nights sleep in ages. The food was excellent so much choice at breakfast from fruit and cereals to full cooked, dinner was just as good we had tree courses from the "market menu" we could have had the Al a carte menu but there was no need everything was fresh and delicious. We used the pool but not the gym as we needed to wear off the calories, it is 20 minutes from Chester which is well worth the visit. Thank you Rookery Hall for such a lovely stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in the old house but our daughter has stayed in the new part and that was as good ,

Visited here on the 13th December for Christmas Works meal and overnight stay. Car park was full so had to park quite far away. We were supposed to be served canapes and champagne but were forgotten about due to several Christmas parties happening at once. Food was nice was received. Breakfast again was a shambles with no instruct from staff and no menus shown! I think it would be better to visit with either more staff or during a quieter season to ensure for a smoother stay

I took my partner for a surprise birthday spa retreat. The reception staff on checking in and out were delightful. The room was all you would expect it to be for a 4 star hotel with lovely views and one or two nice touches which always impress.

Afternoon Tea was pleasant again with helpful staff.

My partners surprise Spa treatment was ok spoilt by the masseuse after the treatment trying to sell the spa products too aggressively which she felt was unnecessary.

Having had a late afternoon tea we decided against the rather formal dining experience and opted for bar snacks. My Burger was fine but the Chilli Natchos for my partner was poor, not hot and had to be sent back. To his credit the barman automatically offered her a complimentary drink.

A very nice experience, i am unable to give 5 stars because it took me 3 e.mails before i got a reply for accommodation and after booking was told that i could not get the birthday surprise Spa treatment i had wanted as the Spa was full and closed at 5pm. I was offered a treatment 2 hours before official check in or 2 hrs after we were due to leave. If you advertise as a Spa Hotel then you should be able to get a treatment!

Thank you for your time on the call today and my apologies for the issue with your room lock and difficulty you had in re-entering your room, this was unacceptable. As we discussed the member of my team who entered your room was undertaking the turndown service and as such they will tidy clothes, refresh towels, replenish tea / coffee making facilities etc. I look forward to welcoming you back to Rookery in the near future and hope you will give me a call pre your arrival so we could catch up over a coffee...

We had the pleasure of getting married here in 2001, we returned in 2003 then recently for my 40th birthday just last month. An outstanding place to relax, I could not fault the staff, hotel, spa nor the food / service. The room was beautiful and short of nothing. Stunning location and a feeling of warmth and luxury throughout.
Could not recommend enough!

This was booked as a birthday treat, we arrived early so weren't too surprised that our room wasn't ready, however our credit card was swiped etc.We explained that we were attending a football match so would not be back until about 8.45. I think maybe it would have been a good idea to have given us our key in readiness. When we arrived at the hotel we struggled to find a parking space as there was a wedding taking p,ace. As we walked the distance to the hotel we were greeted by loud chanting and profanity from the wedding party who were outside smoking. I thought oh my gd what kind of place is this!

When we walked into reception there were no staff at all not even a concierge! My partner had to go in search if someone to obtain the room key. We were already running late due to a broken down vehicle which obviously was no fault of the hotel, however the extra delay left no time to change for dinner which we were told ad to e ordered by 9.30.
By this time my birthday was turning into a bit of a disaster.
The staff then made amends by allowing us to order and have the meal brought to our room. When we first got into our room the tv wouldn't work :(
The staff kindly got it working and then brought each course of our meal to our room which was lovely and even put a happy birthday in chocolate writing in my desert plate.

So after a sticky beginning the staff really did pull out the stops to make our evening a pleasant one.

We has a junior suite which was a really large size with an equally large ensuite, although the decor could have done with a bit if a refresh, (one of the lampshades looked rather dented and worse for wear). Although there was a selection of hot drinks there was no fridge/mini bar.

We previously stayed at The Mere which was more polished but then Rookery Hall had that nice warm feel to it. The spa at The Mere offered more things however Rookery Hall's spa had a light airy spacious feel which we really enjoyed.

I

Room Tip: Maybe ask for a newer room or a recently decorated one.
