The hotel's own directions are not comprehensive - they direct you to a junction on the motoroway and suggest that you follow the signs. The trouble is that when coming from the east, the sign appears to be sending you back onto the motorway that you've just left! Having driven round the roundabout twice, I eventually found the hotel, which is situated on an island surrounded by canals. As a result the car parking is rather spread out.
Check in was efficient and the room was pleasantly decorated and comfortable. There was air conditioning, but it wasn't working. As it wasn't very warm (despite being June), this was not a problem, but would have been the following night.
Good buffet breakfast in the conservatory style restaurant.
At less than £60 for the room and breakfast this was good value.

Stayed there for two nights - did not expect such good quality of accommodation and service!

would recommend the hotel to everyone visiting the area for shopping (Outlet village 2 miles away), business or sightseeing the beautiful city of Chester!

This is the third year that I have stayed here. The holiday inn is only 10 - 15 minutes from Chester city centre, and only 5 minutes from Cheshire Oaks (shopping outlet - a must!). This is all ideal if you are planning a shopping trip.

The rooms are large and very clean. If you book a double with a sofa bed the rooms are extremely spacious. Great price, paid £50 for a double via hotels website. The bar and restaurant are also great and reasonably priced. The restaurant overlooks the canal and boat museum - lovely setting.

Be aware - the hotel itself is in a quite an industrial area, so you think the location isn't great as you first drive to the hotel. Once you are there, with the canal side setting, it's a real oasis (especially after a full day shopping).

Would recommend this hotel, but remember you aren't booking the marriott, so don't expect 5* standard. Will be back next year.

After a few years gap we returned to the Holiday Inn, Ellesmere Port. It has been renovated and the standards are still up with the best. This is such a surprising hotel in an industrial area but in a lovely spot with the canals all round. Great leasure centre and staff who do there jobs as they should! Remember to go to the Cheshire Oaks shopping when you are there also. Almost American prices from some of the shops!
