“Lovely lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

Lovely day sun shinning so went and sat outside the Bunbury Arms. The garden was clean and tidy although we did sit infront of the pub as the garden was in the shade . Had a lovely lunch well presented . Three adults had a lovely lunch for just under £20 and was very tasty . The staff were very helpful and we got exactly what we ordered. A very pleasent experience on a lovely day.

“disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

The pub itself is lovely, you would never realise you were so close to the industrial ellesmere port 2 minutes away. It has a nice outside area and lots of table to eat at inside although we were a party of 6 adults and 2 children and struggled to find a table large enough for us. The menu had a good choice on, we ordered at about 6pm, the pub was about half full. We waited 40 minutes for the 3 starters we'd ordered, these were nice. Main course then took another 50 minutes after our starters were cleared. The two children were getting hungry and restless, and it was made worse when the waitress brought 2 dishes over, we established that one of them was not ours so she just put down the other one that we had ordered, but a minute later returned to say that it was not for our table and took it away, collecting it from our table and placing it directly onto the correct table behind us! Another 10 mins and our order came out, the tuna steak was terribly burnt and solid and had to be sent back, they replaced it quickly but no one offered any apology at all. We ordered children's ice creams, a round of bar drinks and 1 coffee. The ice creams came out almost immediately and my husband brought the bar drinks over while I waited for my coffee. After ten minutes we settled the bill at the bar but still no sign of the coffee. In the end we had to go and ask again for it. The waitresses weren't overly busy but all seemed very sullen all evening, not smiley and friendly, and no one acknowledged the long waits for food or coffee. Overall the food was nice (when not overcooked) and the cask was very good, the staff were sulky and the service was slow and impersonal. Disappointing really for what could be a real hidden gem of a country pub.

“Tantalisingly close to being good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012 via mobile

Five of us visited for dinner. The party was made up of three adults and two pre teen children.

The outside of the inn looks a little unkempt, not untidy but not manicured either.

The main eating rooms are quant and have real atmosphere. All the drinks we had were good and service at the bar was fast.

The menu was good with a good cross section of food except for children - my two have wider tastes that chicken nuggets and chips but there was no option to have smaller portions if adult meals which more inn now offer - please make this available as it will increase satisfaction as the quality of the adult meals were quite good.

I say "quite good" not excellent as the chips and vegetables were not as good as they could have been - they were okay and perfectly edible but we have had better.

Service was good but would have benefited from a friendly smile.

Would I go back - sure would as I am sure this inn will become the top eatery it deserves to be.

“Christmas dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

Visited twice for Xmas lunch, good hearty food, also had evening meals, which I would say are of better quality, nicely cooked, tasty, unpretentious tasty meals, of a decent size after a days work. Shall be going again.
