“Pub lunch.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Had booked lunch for Easter Sunday.
Lovely old thatched pub with genuine atmosphere. Open fires. Good range of beers.
Very busy as you can imagine on this day. We had a table for four.
The menu is limited - roasts, ploughman's and sandwiches. The service was friendly and efficient considering how busy they were. The food was average with the usual large portions, but it is a bar menu so no complaints.
Worth visiting for the country pub experience.

“Unclean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013 via mobile

Have been drinking in the white lion for a number of years and enjoy the atmosphere and what a fantastic property.I do feel though that the place needs some refurbishment.I do not mean modernising in any way but it looked unclean and a lick of paint would help. The toilets I have to say are terrible and the back entrance to the pub in uninviting.Despite this I will continue to go and enjoy a drink but standards have slipped.

“This is what you would expect of a traditional Cheshire pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

The small village of Barthomley has a great pub 'the white lion' opposite the church.
The food is only served at lunch time, and is plentiful and extremely tasty.
A very welcoming pub with real ale & real fires all day long.
Careful on the parking as only has small car park.

“A Great Pub in Cheshire”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

We have been eating at this pub since the early 90s and it just keeps getting better. It is located in the small village of Barthomley and is of Tudor style construction. The food is outstanding, the ales wonderful and the staff friendly and caring. Last summer, in one visit, our walking group of 20+ was easily and comfortably accommodated for lunch and, even though some members had not visited prviously, was a big hit. I reommend this restaurant for anyone who enjoys typical English pub grub.

“Traditional Country pub. Real fires.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

Always a busy + friendly pub with good simple pub food + real ale. Thatched roof and black+white construction with a stream behind beer garden. Handy for M6 / Crewe.
